Mission: Athena international supports, develops and honors women leaders and those who inspire them to reach their full potential by offering unique, impactful leadership development and award programs with a long term goal of creating balance in leadership worldwide.
Programs: Athena leadership award programs recognize individuals who have achieved professional excellence, give back to their community in meaningful ways and open doors of leadership opportunity for women. Athena leadership awards have been presented in over 500 communities in the united states, canada, england, india, bermuda, china, greece and uae. Athena global leadership awards have been presented to over 30 women including marlo thomas, billie jean king, ruth bader ginsburg and frances hesselbein. In 2016 there were a total of 173 awards given out bringing the total since inception to over 7,000.
athenapowerlink program helps women-owned businesses expand profitability with assistance from volunteer advisory panels. The athenapowerlink governing body in the business owner's community determines the specific areas of expertise in which the business requires assistance and recruits professionals to provide the needed guidance for one year as part of a volunteer advisory panel.
the athena leadership model, developed through a grant from the w. K. Kellogg foundation, identifies eight distinct attributes that are reflective of womens contributions to leadership: living authentically, learning constantly, advocating fiercely, acting courageously, fostering collaboration, building relationships, giving back and celebrating. Under the athena leadership model, distinctive education and mentoring programs have been created to foster women in leadership: athena international women's leadership day program, athena connections college leadership & leading from within programs, and athena nextgen program.
