Mission: The association of science-technology centers incorporated (astc) is an organization of science centers and museums dedicated to furthering the public understanding of science among diverse audiences. Astc encourages excellence and innovation in informal science learning by serving and linking its members worldwide and advancing their common goals. Through strategic alliances and global partnerships, astc also supports science centers and museums in proactively addressing critical societal issues, locally and globally, where understanding of and engagement with science are essential.
Programs: Membership services - a bi-monthly journal and other print and electronic publications keep members apprised of trends, practices, perspectives, and news of significance to the science museum field. Websites provide resources and timely information, and a listserv and on-line learning forums promote sharing of successful practices. A research service tracks and analyzes trends and compiles statistics for the field. Advocacy efforts represent the interests of science centers before the u. S. Congress and federal agencies. The center for informal science education (caise) is dedicated to advancing and improving the practice of informal science education.
annual conference - each year, nearly 2,000 individuals representing science centers and museums from across the world, informal science educators and companies collaborating with the museum field gather for astc's annual conference - the premier professional development opportunity for the global science center community. The conference includes general sessions, concurrent sessions, and other activities and events.
global programs - public awareness - astc establishes dialogue among international research and science education organizations, positions science-technology centers and museums globally as recognized leaders in the public's engagement with science, and works to develop cross-sector partnerships to raise the public's awareness about the role of science and technology in addressing critical global issues such as climate change. International member relations - astc delivers services to its members around the world and adapts these services to fit the unique, region-specific needs of those international members. Science centre world congress - together with other science center networks, astc plans this international meeting, which is held every 3 years. Astc's role in the science centre world congress is to implement the resolutions of the science centre world congress to support the growth of the science museum field internationally. International science center and science museum day - together with partners and other science center networks, astc organizes this annual day to celebrate science centers and museums and to highlight the field's global efforts to apply science and technology to help address the un sustainable development goals.
