AWSM is as exactly as its nickname sounds - AWESOME. The group is a collection of dynamic women, from students to veteran professionals, singles to moms with kids, all who share a passion to help women advance in the male-dominated field of sports media. I have seen the opportunities increase for women in the field because of AWSM's leadership and stewardship. And AWSM has also served as a public - and private - voice of support for women who have suffered injustice and discrimination because of their gender. I want to see AWSM get bigger, stronger and even more powerful in the immediate and long-term. Only by being united can our influence be felt.

Causes: Education
Mission: The primary objective is to serve as a positive advocate for women in sports media, through support services, networking and national visibility; to mentor and assist young women entering into sports media, through scholarships, internships and contact with experienced members; to serve as a watchdog, promoting fair portrayal of female professionals in sports media, encouraging diversity, positive workplace environments and equal access to employment.
Programs: Our annual convention brings women from all different genres of sports media (newspapers, digital operations, broadcast, pr) and serves as professional education for our membership. We offer a variety of workshops on topics such as social media techniques, investigative reporting, improving journalist/pr relations and multimedia storytelling.
scholarships are given for college expenses and summer internships based on a contest that is open to any full time female college student or graduating senior. Work samples are judged by awsm committee
