The smile on a child's face when they receive new clothes is very rewarding. Knowing our testing for "lazy eye" has prevented the child from being blind means the child can face life's challenges much easier. Seeing pride on a senior citizen's face when they give the cap they made to someone in need really means our Senior Friendship program has helped 2 people.
Our group of 270 people helps approximately 20,000 individuals each year in the Greater Sacramento area.
Assistance League of Sacramento changes lives on a daily basis. Over 4500 elementary children go to school each day with the proper clothing and shoes because of our Operation School Bell program. I get a huge sense of pride in knowing that these under privileged children are learning better and attending class more regularly because they are dressed like their peers. When a grateful mother thanks me for the services that we provide, it makes me want to work harder and volunteer more to serve our community.
Becoming an active member of the Assistance League of Sacramento has been one of the best volunteer experiences that I have ever had -- and I've been a community volunteer in both Northern and Southern California for over 40 years. The mission, values and goals of the organization fit my philanthropic nature. It is an all volunteer community service organization spreading love and compassion throughout the greater Sacramento & Yolo County areas through its philanthropic programs.
