Not Your Average Thrift Shop!
The Assistance League runs an exceptional thrift shop. Clean. Well organized and offers great fashion finds! And the funds go to support the many Ada County programs they provide from Bright Beginnings to Operation School and Hy Hopes, and so many more. Truly a great impact on our community. Staff are friendly and professional and genuinely care for the clients served and the community.
When I first heard about Assistance League of Boise I was impressed with the information I was learning. After becoming involved as a volunteer a year ago I realized that what I knew about ALB was just the tip of an iceberg! Holy Moly, the amount of support that is offered for and to our community through ALB is off the charts! There are eleven official programs that benefit people from birth – adulthood with a huge emphasis on elementary – high school aged children. A majority of the funding raised for the programs comes from the gorgeous Thrift Shop located on N Glenwood Street in Garden City. The ever changing merchandise is always spectacular where high quality can be found at affordable prices. The Thrift Shop alone is a service to the community as gently used (and sometimes new) items can be dropped off and then fairly marketed for the consumers to enjoy. Besides the business aspect of ALB there is the passion that flows through each person who volunteers their time and talents at this site. The group is filled with intelligence, creativity, positivity, energy and organization. The mission and goals of ALB are strived for in earnest from the volunteer up through management, into the guiding officers and up to National levels. Respect and TLC for each other flows in all directions at ALB. I hit the jackpot when I joined this organization; I feel proud and blessed.
My experience with this amazing organization started first as a customer shopping at the Assistance League of Boise for many years. The store is always so clean and cheery with so many interesting things at very affordable prices. The clothing is clean and pressed.
I became a member in 2021 and love volunteering in the thrift shop and with its other philanthropic programs.
If you are finding yourself with extra time on your hands, or maybe you are new to the area, consider picking up an application and becoming a volunteer at the Assistance League of Boise. You will have fun and meet new friends.
This is my favorite thrift store in the Treasure Valley! It's neat, organized, and very well priced. They do amazing things for the community, so I love to go there and support them. Everyone that volunteers there is so nice too!
Assistance League of Boise is an amazing organization serving thousands of children across the Treasure Valley. It all starts with the community donating to the Thrift Store!
Assistance League of Boise is a wonderful organization! It is made up of over 300 volunteers, who work tirelessly to help children in our local communities. We have so many programs, including Operation School Bell®, Baby Bundles, Empowering Youth, HY Hope, CARES Closet and more. These programs are funded by our award-winning thrift shop. I have never met a harder working group of people, and feel honored to be a part of this organization.
I feel priviledged to be able to volunteer and serve on the board at Assistance League of Boise. This non profit organization strives to serve children and the community in many ways. The ALB Thrift Store is made possible by donations that come from our community. Our volunteers always thank our customers and the individuals bringing donations to be sold in the thrift store. So often the people bringing donations thank the ALB volunteers for the services being provided to the community. Our thrift store is helping our customers to buy quality goods at reasonible prices while funding the many programs offered by ALB. We share a great partnership with our community.
The Assistance League of Boise is such a top-notch organization. The charities they support really benefit school-age and foster kids in our community by providing them with clothes and school supplies. Cinderella's closet is an amazing way for kids to get prom clothes -- some could or would not get to go to prom otherwise. The thrift store inventory is clean and well-curated - you always can find some treasures in there.
Great organization.
I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of this organization. We are a group of all volunteers who work to help children and community in need. We have 11 philanthropies to help fill various needs throughout the community. I have served on the board for the past three years and I am constantly amazed at the women I get to serve with. When a new need is presented to our organization, we find a way to meet that need. Not even Covid could keep this group of women from serving those in need.

Assistance League of Boise is an incredible organization, run 100% by volunteers. They have 10 philanthropies that serve the needs of children and community. Most of the money used for the philanthropies comes from the sales in the Thrift Shop. If you haven't been in the Assistance League of Boise Thrift Shop, you are missing out on a wonderful shopping experience. They are the "Nordstrom of thrift stores". It is a privilege to be a volunteer with such a worthwhile organization and it is an added perk to get to know these incredible ladies/
As a board member and volunteer with Assistance League of Boise I am constantly amazed at the wonderful things this organization does for our community and especially our children. Our awesome thrift store provides a place for the community to donate their gently used household items and clothing. The thrift shop clients take advantage of great deals, they love our store! We generate enough funds to serve over eighteen thousand people in our valley and return $616,000 to our community. All of this is done with over 47,000 volunteer hours.
Assistance league of Boise ROCKS!

I have been a volunteer member for over 20 years and so proud of how this organization continues to help meet the needs of children and adults through the work of our philanthropies. Each year the need is greater as our Treasure Valley grows in population and the ups and downs of our economy. The primary source of funding for our work is our Thrift Shop. It is full of wonderful donations from the community and our shoppers continue to vote us as the Best Thrift Shop in Idaho for the last 3 years. Come shop with us at 5825 N Glenwood St in Garden City, Wednesday through Saturday 10-4. It is a great place to shop and volunteer!

I have volunteered with Assistance League of Boise for over 20 years. It continues to amaze me that a 100% volunteer organization has grown to support 10 philanthropic programs in our community. The need in Ada County continues to grow as our community grows. By supporting and shopping at the Thrift Store on Glenwood, the profits fund our work in clothing school age children plus supporting our other 9 philanthropic programs.

As a newcomer to Boise in 2015, I was looking for a place to volunteer and, boy, did I find it at ALB. Their mission 'Assistance league volunteers transforming the lives of children and adults through community programs' underlies everything they do. The money to 'transform' is generated mostly by their highly successful Thrift Shop; their charitable endeavors benefit from every donated item that is received, rejuvenated and resold at bargain prices to a loyal clientele. Whether selling and bagging items for customers at the Thrift Shop, sorting books to be shelved in the store or helping a 3rd grader pick out new shoes during our Operation School Bell fall clothing project, I love being part of this selfless, totally volunteer-driven organization. The projects they support touch many deserving individuals in our area; in return, we volunteers benefit from knowing we're part of an organization that makes a difference!
The Assistance League is perhaps the most effective and efficient nonprofit agency I have ever had the privilege to be part of. So much good is accomplished in the community, and all of it is accomplished entirely with an all-volunteer organization. Not one paid employee. This is simply remarkable. The volunteers all work diligently to give back to the community, and all the while it is done with a smile.
Assistance League of Boise is an amazing non profit. The Thrift Shop on Glenwood in Garden City is the primary source of funding for the 11 philanthropies they run. But the shop in and of itself is another wonderful asset to the community. ALB volunteers take the donations, then examine and clean everything before it is put on the shop floor. This little shop provides clothing and housewares at very affordable prices for the community adding yet another benefit.
I have been a member of Assistance League of Boise since 1995. I've served in many le adership positions and witnessed many changes in membership numbers, increased community programs, ownership of our property, and two new buildings and remodels. Our donations have greatly increased allowing our thrift shop and grants to support our growing community programs. Our membership is very supportive of our programs and each other. We take pride in the fact that we are an all-volunteer group giving our time, talents, and enthusiasm to our programs uplifting our community needs.

Volunteering for Assistance League of Boise is an extremely rewarding experience! It's amazing to see kids faces light up when they get to choose new clothes, which was purchased by the assistance league. Working in the thrift shop is rewarding when there are so many people who come back each week because they love shopping there because they have great stuff.
I have been a volunteer with the Assistance League of Boise (ALB) for a year. In that short time, I have witnessed dedication, organization and kindness among the all volunteer staff. The Thrift Shop is unlike most, more like a department store, thanks to our generous donations from the community and hard work of our volunteers. It is the main source of income for our philanthropies which support our underserved community, particularly children, with new clothing and school supplies, among other programs.
The assistance league of Boise is a Wonderful organization! They serve so many of our most venerable children. I have been a volunteer for over 10 years and I feel lucky to be part of such this amazing group.
I’ve been a volunteer for 14 years and watched this nonprofit grow and adapt to a variety of challenges, keeping in mind always the target of helping our community thrive. The dedication of its members and long-term commitment so many of them have made speaks volumes about the quality of its values and success in achieving its goals. The outstanding Thrift Shop is a good representation of the high standards set for Assistance League of Boise by its Board and membership, supported and guided by an excellent Advisory Board.
Assistance League of Boise is an incredible all-volunteer organization. I have been a volunteer for 7 years and can honestly say it is the most organized and well run organization I have ever been a part of. We have a variety of philanthropic programs - baby necessities for brand new moms who have nothing, a necessities kit including a hand-made quilt for kids aging out of the foster care system, school supplies for students who can't afford them, school clothes for elementary and junior high students in need, wigs for those suffering hair loss from a medical condition, hearing aids for people in need, scholarships for students with a hearing impairment and more! Our volunteers are dedicated and passionate about these programs and it shows in the way the services are delivered. Funding for all of our programs comes primarily from our Thrift Store, which is always on the Best of Boise list. Ada County is truly a better place because of the work Assistance League of Boise does in the community.
So proud of the Assistance League of Boise! We are a nonprofit that is an all volunteer organization. We maintain and run the best thrift store in the Treasure Valley. Our profits enable us to help underserved children and adults in Ada County.

Baby Bundles gives a backpack full of baby items. Backpacks are provided to local hospitals who give them to families in need. The organizations provides other philanthropies as well.
As a member of Assistance League, I am very proud of all the philanthropies that we have that all reach out to help the children in our communities. During the 2020-21 year we provided clothing, shoes, hygiene kits and books to 2,762 elementary school children, clothes and shoes to 913 teenagers, sent school supplies to 91 schools in Ada County that provided supplies for 14,000 children, provide start-up supplies for 162 families and their newborns, helped young people that are aging out of the foster care program with start-up supplies, helped those young people that are "couch surfing" with needed supplies, and provided 40 students with hearing aids. All of this is done entirely by a wonderful group of volunteers from this amazing organization.
It's great to see so many people putting many hours in to volunteer. They work extremely hard knowing that they are helping the community. They also have an amazing thrift store that seems more like a boutique. The thrift store makes money so the assistance league can help as many people as possible.
The Assistance League of Boise is an incredibly important nonprofit organization in this Idaho community. Through monies made in our thrift store and grants received, we are able to dress the needy children of Ada County in new clothing and shoes of their choice. Our volunteers work tirelessly to make our thrift store one of the best in the area. Many of the women have also become very good friends and support each other. I've been told by customers the shop is "their happy place."
Fantastic nonprofit provides clothing and school supplies to children in need in Ada county through thrift store sales. Thrift store accepts donations to stock the store. All items provided to children are new!! All volunteer run.
This is the most attractive and well decorated thrift store in the area. I visited several thrift shops in Boise last week and this was by far the top of the line.
Being involved in ALB is a fantastic experience. Top of the list are the connections I’ve made with people - other members, clients we serve and customers from thrift shop. I love working in the shop and seeing some of our regular customers in addition to meeting new people. The shop is very well stocked, organized and efficiently run all thanks to so many of my fellow volunteers. One of the philanthropies funded from the proceeds of the shop is Operation School Bell. This one is near and dear to my heart as it is how I learned about ALB. School children from throughout Ada county are provided with new clothes and shoes. Working with the students is a true light in my life. My involvement in ALB truly enriches my life.
I have been a member of Assistance League of Boise since 2012 and am constantly amazed at the amount of work that our All-VOLUNTEER organization does for the benefit of Ada County. The money for our nine philanthropies comes from our "best in Idaho" Thrift Shop, grants and donation. We provide clothing for school children, school supplies for schools, newborn baby bundles for parents in need, household items for young adults aging out of the foster care system, care kits for homeless unaccompanied youth in high school, hearing aids for low income residents plus college scholarships for hearing impaired students, wigs to persons who have a medical reason for loss of their hair, and rent formals and tuxedos to high school students for a $20 cleaning fee. We also provide tours of the Bown House as part of the Boise School District's 4th grade history curriculum and for the community on the first Saturday of the month. Our 300-plus members give back thousands of dollar in items and time to our community. This certainly fills my need to contribute in my retirement years!!
I have been a volunteer with Assistance League of Boise since 2014. They amaze me more each and every year as I see us make sales in our Thrift Shop where the proceeds support almost 25,000 underserved children in Ada County that receive clothing, supplies and services from us every year. They are a dedicated group of women working with a common purpose. Every aspect is organized, from the items received for donations, to the many philanthropies that serve the children. Cannot say enough great things about this organization. You have to see it to appreciate it!
