A truly inspirational cause! At a time when women's rights issues in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh and other countries are gaining notice, the Asian University for Women is coming into its own as a major player in women'e empowerment. Founded in 2008, AUW has now graduated several classes of young women from South Asia and the Middle East who are going back to their hometowns and serving as role models to girls who may have never thought a college education was possible. This liberal arts university for women from historically oppressed regions of the world is making a real difference!

I have been involved with the Asian University for Women (the actual university in Chittagong, Bangladesh) for a little over 4 months and it is the most inspirational education institution in the world. The AUW Support Foundation (its non-profit in Massachusetts) is listed here, but the true inspiration and empowerment occurs in Bangladesh.
The money donated to AUW is well used on scholarships to 98% of students at AUW, almost all of whom come from incredibly impoverished backgrounds or backgrounds with a lack of opportunity for higher education. A liberal arts institution, AUW creates leaders to reshape the world and is home to some of the smartest female minds, many of whom never would have had a chance to attend higher education without AUW.
This university is the preeminent liberal arts institution in Asia for women and is truly unique. The first of its kind, it is changing the world with each student that enters its doors.
