I have sponsored a child through the Aruna Partnership since 1997 and have had the privilege of visiting my sponsored children at their school several times. All the children at the elementary and high school are so grateful to have an education. One can see them moving about with such pride, dignity and enthusiasm for learning. In the US, most children take their education for granted, but in India poor children struggle for any education, let alone the high quality education they receive through this sponsorship. Over the years, I have seen the children blossom and grow. What a joy to behold!

We have supported a student in this program for nearly ten years. Our yearly contribution covers the cost of her education for the year, and at least a meal a day when she is in school. We have had the good fortune to visit the school when it was in session, meeting some of the teachers as well as the principal. At that time we also met our student and her mother. The school is in a very rural area. We see the school as a center for helping to lift the standard of living in this part of India. We enjoy getting a letter from our student once a year, and writing to her as well. The program regulates what we can send for mail, or bring in as gifts in order to be fair to all the children in the school. And siblings that might not be so fortunate in their school situations. We have been very impressed by the standards the school has set.

I have been involved in NGO's in many countries for many years as the owner of Cross Cultural Journeys, a group travel company that encourages its clients to give back in the countries we visit. My company then follows up for the travelers to make sure the clients funds go where they should. About 5 of my travelers, including myself, became sponsors of girls to go to school in India through the Aruna Partnership. I have visited the girls and schools they are attending and found the Aruna Program exactly as it promised. The girls were all doing well in school, it was well organized to meet the needs of the students without distractions so they could focus on their studies. I spent time with the administrators of the program and left very satisfied that it is an excellent, well organized program, one of the best I have seen.

Person by person, village by village, Aruna Partnership is changing the lives of men, women and children through education and training. I am grateful to be part of this vibrant endeavor in which my sponsored child will continue this domino effect in fulfilling her dream to become a teacher. Who knows how many lives she will enrich as a result of her education through Aruna Partnership?
