Results: As one of the nation's original arts incubators, ArtServe has a 30-year history of developing artists and nonprofit organizations committed to strengthening our community through the arts. Through this work, ArtServe has made it possible for the arts to thrive across South Florida, eagerly investing resources in the people—artists, staff and community stakeholders—who make art come alive.
Today, we annually support more than 2,000 artists and dozens of small nonprofits dedicated to making sure the arts continue to expand in our community. ArtServe knows the way to do this is by cultivating a growing population of artists interested in reaching new audiences through creative initiatives that support diversity, equity, access and inclusion.
ArtServe supports artists and creative programs that operate at the intersection of art and social impact. We’re working to build South Florida’s cultural identity using the arts to close achievement gaps, promote equity and protect the environment.
Our work includes:
• Support and resources for artists to incubate and implement working business models that contribute to the area’s economic and cultural vitality
• Arts education, integration and outreach initiatives that respond to opportunity gaps in academic, economic and socio-emotional arenas
• The presentation of all art forms to enhance community appreciation for diversity and inclusion
• Arts advocacy and data sharing that continually informs the community-at-large about the function of the arts as a valid catalyst for social change
In addition to a full artistic season, special initiatives include:
ArtServe’s research projects include an important partnership with NOVA Southeastern University to study the ability of the arts to reduce school violence in some of Broward County’s most vulnerable schools.
These arts research projects can only be made possible with continuing support from granting agencies, foundations and private donations.
ArtServe provides no- and low-cost studio/rehearsal space for emerging artists to create new works in the visual and performing arts. Through the Residency Program, artists also gain access to professional development workshops, marketing support and ongoing mentoring. The goal is to empower young artists towards independent success, so they can continue to make a powerful difference in the world through the arts.
With support from granting agencies and private gifts, ArtServe is able to accommodate artists on the cusp of fame, who are in need of appropriate performance space to take their work to the next level.
Fellows are working on important projects that tackle contemporary social justice issues through the arts.
