Mission: Hecho en Encinal works in extremely poor and isolated rural areas of South Texas to provide access to arts, arts education, and cultural activities to communities here. By working closely with other community organizations (school districts, city governments, etc.), Hecho en Encinal successfully reaches a broad range of populations usually left out of the arts.
Programs: Hecho en Encinal's programs include after-school clubs--in visual arts, dance, music, and writing--for elementary school children (in Encinal, the elementary school does not otherwise provide arts programming); NEA-funded after-school programs for middle-school students (digital photography and video, painting, mural design); artist residencies (music, storytelling); and a community tile mural project. Hecho en Encinal, finally, is working to raise money for the renovation of an empty, 1930s-era school building as a community arts center.
