Causes: Arts & Culture, Visual Arts
Mission: The purpose of the Arts and Design Society (ADSO) is to sponsor, stimulate and promote art in its many phases and to further the intelligent appreciation of all forms of the arts within our community. ADSO endeavors to stimulate high standards of art works and to privide increasing opportunities to artists to expand their knowledge and espertise.
Programs: This is our 10th year of hosting "Kids Fine Art Camp' This program offers chidren ages 6 - 14, a chance to explore different art media, or hone their skills on the ones they know. The classes are 2 hours a day for a week, with each day devoted to a different media. The classes are limited to 16 children and we offer 4 different camps. At the end of the week, the children go home with a piece of art done in clay, a sketch for drawing of the week and the future, an acrylic painting done on canvas and a series of prints from printmaking done with a block print they designed. As well as the pieces of art, they go home with the knowledge of what they did and how to acheive it again. This has been a popular program with many of the children returning for several years in a row. This is an important asset to our community as art is not taught in our schools until the 6th grade, and then it is only an elective.
