Mission: To reach individuals affected by arthritis with our programs and services and provide general information through publications, brochures and our website. We hold public education programs where people can learn about the signs and symptoms of arthritis so they go (continued from page 2) to a doctor, get a proper diagnosis and start an effective treatment plan. We train allied health professionals to better serve our constituents. Our individual programs including support and discussion groups,self-help classes and warm water exercise programs, help people improve their range of motion, decrease depression and experience less doctor visits. All of our evidence based programs help people control their arthritis.
Programs: Research - awards of grants to support scientific studies or investigations, plus conducting programs in which new knowledge is being sought to find causes, cures and prevention of arthritis diseases and to improve the quality of life for those affected by arthritis. Public health education - programs conducted for the purpose of informing the general public on all aspects of arthritis. Also included is the dissemination of facts and information designated to encourage and empower individuals, populations and communities to engage in and promote healthy behaviors and to create a health environment that will prevent the onset of, and/or mitigate the disability associated with arthritis. Professional education and training - activities or programs designed to improve the knowledge, skills and critical judgment of physicians, nurses, therapists, and other professional health workers by keeping them informed of new therapies, medical advances, diagnostic techniques, etc. Relating to arthritis diseases. Patient and community services - activities performed or programs conducted for the purpose of providing physical, emotional, or other assistance to individuals affected by arthritis or their families. It also represents activities such as the detection of arthritis diseases or health problems, planning and improving community health practices partnering with clinics or other public health facilities conducting our exercise and self-management programs to help people manage their disease. It further provides resources about the furnishing of medical care, hospitalization, equipment, drugs and other tangible items to those with arthritis that are in need.
