Causes: Education
Mission: To address the public health crisis of gun violence by educating citizens, building awareness, and supporting nonpartisan legislation.
Programs: Held regular monthly meetings for donors/supporters on policies, issues and legislation affecting responsible gun ownership and reducing gun violence. Meetings attracted 40-60 people. Held small discussion groups in local homes throughout charleston county. These are small discussion groups of 6-12 people. Sent monthly e-newsletters to our supports (600+) to update on activities, legislation, pending actions and organized events. Maintained facebook page/group with regular updates on arm-in-arm activities and issues surrounding gun control in south carolina. Participated in public health fairs in charleston county and talked with students, teachers, and interest parties about public health crisis of gun violence and provided informaional handouts. January - organized stand up sunday. Churches across south carolina participated conducted sermons on reducing gun violence and urging congregants to take action by contacting community leaders, organize in their communities and write to legislators. Stand up sunday engaged over 300 churches and reached thousands of concerned congregants. January-june - attended and testified at the sc house and senate committee meetings on proposed gun ownership legislation. January-june - lobbied (h-election) at sc state house on expending background checks and voting against open carry and reciprocityjanuary-december - participated in press conferences and collaborated with local groups by attending meetings, presenting on the mission of arm-in-arm and tabling at events. Estimated outreach: 200+. Arm-in-arm was featuerd in the media (newspaper and television) several times. Outreach and readership covered the eastern part of the state. June and december - news and fundraising letters sent to 300 donors/supports.
