I was President of the Board from 2010 to 2014 and we were voted best run club by the Student Association. The organization is highly organized, financially accountable and solvent while they improve the community and society through philanthropic efforts. Every year when board leadership transfers, there are protocols in place ensuring stability from year to year. I was a member of this organization for four years. In that time I went from being scared of speaking in front of a small group to making speeches at conferences in front of hundreds.
Besides the public speaking, leadership, research, team building, and problem solving skills that this organization provided me, it also provided an opportunity to hundreds of high school kids in Mexico, Arizona, and surrounding states to travel and participate in a multi-day conference of their own. This yearly conference was an incredible opportunity for the kids it hosted, but also a great opportunity for our members to experience hosting an event of that scale.
This single organization has positively impacted hundreds of people in an incredibly meaningful way and I’ll always be grateful to it
Serving as a board member of AZMUN for two years has been such a rewarding experience! AZMUN is much more than just a college club, and has a real and important impact on both students at the UofA and high schoolers in the US and Mexico. Definitely recommend this organization!
I was a member of the board from 2008-2012. This completely student-led organization was foundational in helping me develop professional skills that have been instrumental in my work after college. It remains the only bilingual, binational conference in the United States and has been continuously in operation for over half a century. While Arizona and Sonora are constantly in the news because of perennial conflict and debate over the state of border, AZMUN is an example of young people trying to create a space of cooperation and diplomacy across this divide that may lead to better solutions for the borderlands and its residents in the future.
I was involved in AZMUN throughout my undergraduate career. AZMUN is a wonderful organization that provided me with ample opportunity for learning, public speaking, community, and volunteer work.
As a past Secretary General, I can say that this organization is doing incredible educational work in the Tucson and Hermosillo communities. Its members are all incredibly dedicated, and seeing the growth this organization fosters in students was amazing to witness.
The opportunity to join AZMUN and work as a member of the Executive Committee has provided me many learning experiences as an undergraduate student at the University of Arizona. Joining this club encouraged my passion for discussion and knowledge of the world, as well as the life-changing ability to share that passion with younger students.
As a general member and later an Executive Committee member, AZMUN has offered me invaluable and inspiring experiences which have encouraged me to further pursue diplomatic values in all aspects of my life and studies. Getting to create life-changing moments and opportunities for younger students through AZMUN continues to be something I enjoy tremendously.
