Mission: Preserving the rich heritage of arizona's jewish communities, educating the public about jewish contributions to arizona life, and promoting awareness of our state's diverse history.
Programs: Three major focuses in fy'11: 1. Creation and installation of an original exhibition commemorating the arizona centennial entitled, "new frontiers: jewish pioneers in the arizona territory. " the exhibit features photographs, text, and objects pertaining to many of arizona's early jewish pioneers. In addition, we have hosted a series of educational programs commemorating the arizona centennial and the role of jewish pioneers in arizona. These programs included lectures, music, and theatrical performances. 2. Ongoing restoration and maintenance of phoenix's original synagogue building as the cutler-plotkin jewish heritage center, a museum and cultural center open to people of all faiths and backgrounds. 3. Accessioning and processing of significant new archival collections. These include the archives of beth el congregation as well as papers and artifacts from the late rabbi albert plotkin. Samples of the plotkin collection were made available online through our website.
