Adopted our dog from here 4 years ago! They were patient with us and even let us do a "sleepover" with him for the first night to make sure we were a good fit. The support we have received over these past years is awesome!
This is an incredible organization that truly puts the animals first! I was a medical foster for them years ago and they showed nothing but kindness towards the animals and myself. They fully stand behind their animals!
I love this shelter, well kept and everyone loves the animals. My son adopted his Rei dog over a year ago from this shelter so my daughter and I now volunteer here to give back to them what they gave to my son. His Rei is so amazing, I don't know what he would do without her.
I haven't personally worked with this group, however through their social media I do know they're a group of dedicated staff and volunteers to animals in need. They help many cats, dogs and most important education about spaying and neutering pets. Along with the low cost clinic to help reduce the pet population.
We had a wonderful experience adopting our dog from AAWL! When we adopted him, he was just recovering from life-saving surgery he received from the wonderful vets and care providers at Arizona Animal Welfare League - they had nursed him back to health and provided excellent care and attention to him, all free and as a result of the generous donations from donors who keep this wonderful organization operating every day. Please consider donating your dollars to this worthy cause!!
Great facility with caring people. Effectively provide quality of life to animals in need.
We were searching for a new fur baby for our family & we went to an adoption event Arizona Animal Welfare was at, instantly we fell in love with this pup and spent hours with him while the event was going on. Another family was "ahead" of us to see if their dog would get along with the little guy.
We left our name and number with some volunteers hoping we would end up with him & went home. About 20 minutes later a volunteer called to let us know the pup was ours if we still wanted him! OF Course we did!
The amount of love for each of the dogs being adopted is endless, the passion each volunteer had and still has is amazing! We couldn't be happier with the addition to our family & the memory of the adoption day!
I really loved this organization. I have been following the page for over 6 months and knew for sure I would be adopting my cat there. The Chandler location is a really great location. Even though small, the staff was extremely nice and helpful. The cat for me just wasn't there. So I went to the main location in Phoenix and it's amazing HOW much of a difference it was. The staff in the cat adoption section were extremely rude. Or I guess I should say mainly the girl at the adoption desk. So rude, short, snippy And ignorant. She made us feel stupid for asking any questions about the cats. It is an extremely important process to pick out a pet for your family. You need to find the one that works for you. The personalities go hand in hand. And the front desk worker cut us off and barely helped is. I was not happy at all. I know the dog adoption section is great and I've only heard great things but I'm seeing more and more bad reviews on the cat adoption workers. I don't understand what's wrong with asking questions about the pet you are going to bring into your family. It's important to know about health, food, past, behaviors etc. We didn't get much information. We did get her health records but when we asked any questions all we got in response was a short and rude tone, "is there something wrong with the medical records?". Especially adopting a kitten that was under 6 months I wanted to be absolutely sure our family knew how to take care of her and she will be comfortable. I'm still thinking about the day we adopted our cat and wished it would have been a better experience. I would have 100% left if I didn't fall in love with the kitten we adopted. She was truly perfect. But unfortunately I will not be going back unless something is done about the workers. And I really don't want this to stop me or others from adopting potential animals that we can care for and give them a great home and life.
AAWL is amazing! We are forever grateful for them bringing us together with our loving pup, Murphy! They were so accommodating by allowing us to bring our other dog, Frank, and facilitating their first meeting (which went better than we could have ever imagined). We are so thankful of the hard work they do and will continue to always support this wonderful place!

Amazing organization who has the animals' happyness as first priority.
I have been volunteering with AAWL since 2013. The work they do for animals is astounding! The facilities are beautiful and clean, the animals extremely happy and the process for adoption thorough and full of care! They put on amazing events from galas to fundraising nights at restaurants. Their clinic is low cost for the public and serves all of the animals in the shelter as well. I even recently joined their board for young professionals to continue to educate the public while fundraising for the wonderful cause. I'm so proud to be a part of their community and even adopted two pups from them during my time there! AAWL truly changed my life for the better and every time I'm there it is a complete joy. My favorite non profit EVER!
This shelter does exceptional work in finding homes for both dogs and cats, as well as offers a low cost clinic. The clinic just helped me with cleaning my 14 year old cat's teeth, and some extractions. They did a great job and the pricing was much more affordable! I adopted one cat there and he was the best cat ever! The staff knows the personalities and can help you make an informed, well-thought out decision in choosing your furever pet. I also signed up to become a volunteer in the dog kennels; I've taken advantage of some of their dog training classes, which are a great asset.
As you can see, I am a BIG fan of this shelter for many good reasons. Please consider voting for them as well. Stop by sometime and scritch a dog or cat's head! They will love you for it! Woof!
At AAWL I've interacted with staff and volunteers who are so dedicated and passionate in rescuing animals; making sure that they get a 2nd chance to a forever home. There are so many opportunities/training for us as volunteers to engage with our four-legged friends. We go beyond walking dogs. We do enrichment games, dog training, shy-dog classes, and play groups. Through my volunteering I found our new fur baby to add to our family. It's awesome feeling being part of AAWL who are committed in saving, rescuing and loving each and every animal that comes through their doors!
Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA is my favorite non-profit! They are always looking for new ways to help promote safety and welfare to the animals in AZ. They build great relationships with community partners. More importantly, they never euthanize for space. All animals are safe and loved there until they find their furever homes.
It is hard to choose just one story of how amazing AAWL&SPCA is. The care and attention that each animal receives should be a model for all shelters. At AAWL every staff member and volunteer works to ensure that all animals are healthy, socialized, nourished, and loved. From dog walking to reading in the kennels to classes to improve interaction with animals, AAWL&SPCA sets the standard by which all other shelters should be measured.
This is one of the best non-profits in Arizona with their programs, their collaborations, their outreach to the communities they served and their attitude to use cutting edge techniques with the animals whose lives they save! We are so privileged, to be a partner with them as they work to maximize resources to better help those in crisis - two legged and four!
Not only did I adopt from AAWL, I was so impressed by their facility that I began volunteering. I just knew I had to be a part of the incredible work they were doing. My rescue dog has rescued me and volunteering is my favorite part of the week. These animals are so well cared for, he staff is so knowledgable and friendly, and the awareness an organization like this raises in our community is priceless.
I started my volunteer journey a few months ago at AAWL. From the first day on I see how much caring there is by all staff members for the animals and each other. They inspire me to be a better person. And I've learned a lot. With so many dogs it always amazes me that staff know every single dogs name and their story. The commitment to all animals is evident at AAWL and I'm proud to be a volunteer. Cheers to AAWL!
After going through a disorganized orientation process at a different shelter, and seeing people get nauseous to the point of getting sick because of the lack of cleanliness and smell, I reached out to AAWL as a volunteer... I had already heard good things.
Their orientation was conveniently organized for a Saturday afternoon. Was straight forward and friendly. When we toured the facility I was amazed at the cleanliness and the nice play areas for the dogs to run around and play with toys and jump in kiddie pools.
This is an adoption facility that has staff and volunteers that are there for one uniting reason, their passion for animals.
After 8 months of volunteering (cuddling with dogs, taking them on walks) I could take it no longer, I had to become a customer. I brought home a big puppy with giant ears just over two years ago.
AAWL is a fantastic organization. They have low cost pet clinics open to the public. Educational events for children. Programs for the sheltered animals where they get a break from the kennels and can go home with designated volunteers for a couple of nights. Fostered and sponsored dogs, and a fantastic staff who always prioritize the animals well being.
Hello. A couple years ago I adopted the best little dog in the world. I already had two border collies but I wanted to adopt. I was looking for a high drive smaller dog. I visited with several dogs that day. When they brought "Moby" now Piper, out to meet me, I knew in my heart that he was mine. Piper is a poodle dachshund cross. He loves to play with his border collies, sleep with his two cats and go on mini "trail rides" in the arena following his horse around. We have participated in two walk a thons that were promoted by the AAWL. They do such a great job and the animals are well taken care of. I just love my lil Piper dog and I love AAWL
Adopting our little 5-month old puppy Cheddar from the AAWL was an excellent experience. The facility in Chandler was clean, the animals were well cared-for and everyone who worked there was friendly. The process of adoption was very thorough--they want to make sure that each animal is a good match so they will be placed in a "forever home"--and we were given extensive information about Cheddar's history. She had a rough start in life, but the AAWL housed her, nursed her back to health, fed her, played with her and gave her lots of love until she was ready for adoption. Now she is over a year old and has been an absolute joy, a happy and healthy member of our family! Thanks, AAWL!
