March 2006 was the beginning of the rest of life. I was homeless, almost beaten to death due to domestic violence and a product of vicious incest and rape from my father and brothers. I had many physical challenges. No agency wanted me because they were afraid I would die on them. The fact that no one wanted me hurt so bad that I thought about taking my own life. Ariel Outreach Mission heeded the call. They welcomed me in. For the first time in a long time I was able to sleep peacefully. It was a very long and harsh road back to normalcy, to obtain stability and financial sustainability. I had been hurt so much that I would say and do things to make individuals angry at me so I wouldn't have to talk to them. Dr. Scott and Dr. Jackson changed my life. It began with a hug and all of my sisters in the Mission were told that we were Women of Excellence. Ariel gave us a hand up not a hand out. Society judged women of domestic violence, incest and rape. One person that comes to mind was a lady who stated it was their fault, these women of domestic violence and rape. They have all these babies, are of low education and only want to overload the welfare system. It was so very comical because I always dressed in business attire and never thought once that I lived in a shelter. I thanked the lady for sharing her opinion and told her that I was one of the ladies she spoke about, a victim of domestic violence, incest and rape. Thank you for taking the time to read part of my story. By the way I am a Registered Nurse. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing and am also a Public Health Nurse. I have been a volunteer for Ariel Outreach Mission since 2006.
