Mission: The area agency on aging of palm beach/treasure coast, dba your aging & disability resource center is a dynamic, private, non-profit organization whose mission is to advocate, plan and promote the independence, dignity, health and wellbeing of seniors and their caregivers in a manner that embraces diversity and reflects the communities we serve. Established by the older americans act, the area agency on aging provides a variety of in-home and community-based services to persons 60+ through the aging network in indian river, martin, okeechobee, palm beach and st. Lucie counties. 2013 celebrated the fourth year of your aging resource center's elder helpline. Staffed by a corps of trusted, compassionate, professional specialists, the elder helpline helps seniors and their caregivers find answers and make informed decisions. Specialists are able to help in english, spanish and creole. Services are available to the entire community seeking answers on aging or looking for service providers.

Programs: The area agency on aging and its network of provider partners assisted more than 13,500 elders during 2013 with home and community based services, adult day care, counseling, education, congregate meals, home delivered meals, homemaking, transportation, and information and referral services.

the agency has engaged seniors as volunteers. During 2013, shine (serving the health insurance needs of elders) volunteers donated 5,400 hours to provide one-on-one counseling to 5,500 seniors. Foster grandparent senior volunteers mentored and tutored 613 children pre-k through 3rd grade and the elder rights volunteer advocates helped 4,484 senior victims of crime.

the agency provides a "one-stop" system that integrates information, referral, and eligibility determination functions to facilitate customer friendly access to long term care. The goal is to enhance individual choice and support informed decision making. The helpline is the gateway to publicly funded services.

the agency's healthy living center of excellence offers opportunities to enhance the quality of life and improve the wellbeing of seniors. Evidenced based workshops in living healthy, a matter of balance and tai chi help seniors maintain control of their lives.
