Mission: The alliance for the restoration of cultural heritage (arch), is dedicated to the support and encouragement of cultural activism to prevent, restore and overcome the threats posed to civilization's achievements by war, conflict, and social division.
Programs: In 2013, arch was engaged in the development of a garden at kabul university in afghanistan in honor of the 13th century poet, jalaladdin rumi, which will serve as a platform to disseminate rumi's important messages about tolerance and peace, and to remind afghans and foreign visitors alike of the country's rich and cultured history. Arch also worked to develop a handbook and corresponding mobile app to provide resources to both museum professionals and ordinary citizens in places of active conflict. The handbook will include how to protect and preserve found artifacts and other cultural items, how to properly inventory those items, and how to report lost or stolen items to proper international authorities. In 2013, arch collaborated with artists and other contributors to develop a storybook series of afghan fairytales in hopes of collecting, collating and publishing these intangible relics of the past. Also during the year, arch jointly hosted a conference in washington, dc together with the smithsonian institution and blue shield usa to discuss the risks to syrian cultural heritage posed by the ongoing conflict in that country.
