Causes: Environment
Mission: The arboretum foundation promotes, protects, and enhances the washington park arboretum for current and future generations by strengthening and building a diverse and engaged community of donors, volunteers, and advocates.
Programs: Capital projects: during this fiscal year the arboretum foundation expended funds towards the new centennial garden along azalea way. This project was made possible by partnership with the seattle garden club to commemorate the seattle garden club's 100th anniversary. The foundation also granted funds to the city of seattle to replace the roof of a structure at the seattle japanese garden. The arboretum foundation engages in active fundraising through events, memberships, planned giving, and other donor cultivation to meet capital needs, to continue implementing parts of our master plan, and for other purposes including education programs and ongoing maintenance.
maintenance: the foundation made its regular annual grant for arboretum maintenance and renewal to the university of washington botanic gardens to support the arborist program and the pacific connections gardener. Other maintenance expeditures made when needed.
education: the foundation exists primarily to support the washington park arboretum. To this end the foundation provides volunteer opportunities, educational materials and funds for the k-12 programs.
the foundation also hired staff to coordinate the volunteers stewards program for pacific connections and azalea way. Plant donations nursery and the pat calvert greenhouse have volunteer programs to provide ongoing education and skills training in horticulture. Foundation staff coordinates a full slate of programming at the japanese garden and arboretum foundation volunteer unit 86 provides docents to the japanese garden. Amounts for all other program services including the japanese garden, the stewards program, plant donations, and the pat calvert greenhouse.
