Mission: Aquila is dedicated to the reinterpretation of classical drama. It is our mission to bring the greatest works to the greatest number.
Programs: Major annual national tour: shakespeare's much ado, agatha christie's murder on the nile, and our trojan war, a new play based on historic american speeches and ancient greek poetry. The tour encompassed main stage performances, educational performances, interactive discussions, and masterclasses and workshops. Humanities programming: dialogues: from athens to afghanistan a program which brings veterans, artists and scholars together with an ancient and modern piece of literature, poetry or dramatic work which was influenced by experiences of war. These works were then compared to pieces of art from the met museum collection and the collaborative findings and thoughts were shared with the public through staged reading events. Aquila additionally continued with the warrior chorus, a national initiative that trains veterans in urban centers to present innovative public programs based on ancient literature. Programming performed by veterans focused on critical social issues including war, conflict, comradeship, home, and family and will include veteran-led readings, and discussions. Shakespeare leaders is an intensive after-school program for at-risk high school students in new york city. The programs gives teens an opportunity to succeed vocationally and academically by reading, understanding and performing shakespeare.
