Causes: Animals, Wildlife Sanctuaries
Mission: Apex protection project is dedicated to protecting wolves and wolf-dogs through educational experiences, rescue and advocacy with the dream of living in a world where wolf and all species are highly valued, protected and respected for the balance they bring to the ecosystem and for the gifts they offer to humanity.
Programs: September: rescued 3 sick three and a half week old wolf-dog puppies, brought back to health,and raised. They are now two of our top ambassador program animals. January: steve joined fellow non-profit organization lockwood animal rescue center in a month-long project in montana, preventing the trapping and hunting of wolves as well as documenting their experience for a documentary. January: paula spoke in long beach, ca at the fish and wildlife hearing regarding the new wolf management plan of ca in an effort to encourage protections including keeping them on the esa. April: traveled with the ambassador pack to sedona, az to join filmmaker julia huffman on the q&a panel at four screenings of her award-winning documentary medicine of the wolf hosted by the sedona film festival. Spent a week giving free school presentations, outreach, and education reaching over 1000 people. June: rescued a wolf-dog with a broken leg. Was able to raise the money for his surgery, rehab, and to build his enclosure. July: invited speakers at the annual speak for wolves convention in yellowstone. Rescued a wolf-dog from the west la shelter, rehabilitated her at our facility and found an appropriate home for her. We receive constant updates on her wellbeing and are able to visit on a regular basis. Rescued a wolf-dog from the downy, ca shelter and found a sanctuary in colorado to take him. We assisted with the transport. He is thriving at their facility. Helped with rescue in virginia of 12 wolf-dogs, helping to place them around the country and coordinated transport for one of them. Helped with rescue of three wolf-dogs in the west la shelter and helped facilitate vet care and finding a sanctuary in new mexico to take them. Work year-round with a nationwide wolf-dog rescue network and help place/find transport for as many as we can. Helped on fur-farm/petting zoo shut-down in minnesota. Still in process. Gave free school presentations in the los angeles area as well as sedona, az educating about the importance of the wolf in nature, and dispelling the negative myths surrounding the wolf. Participated in corporate team-building programs taught from the aspect of the success of a wolf pack and their cultural values. Gave private hikes at the apex ranch to groups wanting to learn more about wolves and interact with our ambassador pack. We estimate that we reached a minimum of 3000 people last year between all of the outreach we were able to accomplish.
