When I retired six months ago from a four-decade career in education, I parked at the Annapolis Maritime Museum in Eastport and walked onto their pier. The first person I encountered was Jenny Kottler, Board member and at the time Interim Director. I asked if they'd like some help with fundraising -- my area of recent expertise. Jenny inquired about my background and told me they'd love to have help with their sixth-grade oyster restoration project. Could I be at City Dock the next morning? I went, I learned about spat from DNR's Chris Judy, and I was instantly committed. The other volunteers are amazingly informed and committed people; the professional staff is first-rate, and the focus of the organization is much clearer than the turbidity of the Chesapeake Bay.
