Mission: An alano club is regarded as a facility that serves the community by providing support, information, outreach, relevant programs (like 12 step recovery groups), social interaction and an accepting drug and alcohol free gathering place for all those affected by addiction and seeking renewal, physically, mentally, and spiritually through recovery. With strong moral and financial support from the community and recovery groups the alano club can assure a continuing role of supporting individuals in their struggle to overcome addiction. An alano club provides a safe haven for the newly recovering and longtime sober and clean alocholic or addict. The club provides an environment free of alcohol and drugs.
A meth addict and alcoholic called for me a ride to a meeting at the Animas Alano Club. I took her to her first 12-Step meeting and was able to let her come to spend the weekend at my home. During that time she completed Steps 1,2, & 3. She now has 6 months clean and sober! In school, she was always in Special Ed. classes and never knew why. Our dyslexia expert explained that dyslexia was most likely the culprit. While working on her dyslexia, her dyscalculia (math challenge) was uncovered. Today she is learning how to budget her money and following in her 12-Step book while the computer reads it to her. By this time next year, she'll probably be an independent reader and be able to budget on her own!
