in 2012 my cat sitter accidentally killed my diabetic cat. Since I was so sad, my husband told me to go to AK and get "a replacement." This started my decade long relationship with the rescue. Animalkind is filled to the brim with people who work exhaustively to try to manage the unwanted and unfortunate cat population in the Hudson area - by providing food, healthcare, spay and neuter, adoption services, TNR, emergency advice and a safe haven for cats with all kinds of tough beginnings. They also spend time rehabilitating ones that are injured or abused and finding a matching happy forever home. I have had 10 cats over the past decade from them - they were all wonderful little furry souls - some stayed for years and I still have them, a few for only months before they passed away from age or illness. Katrin is a wonder and anyone who may say differently is just embittered by her "take no prisoners" style of speaking. AK saves thousands of these furry souls every year and deserves to be held in the highest esteem by the community.
They are willing to help when no other place will or can. Their hearts are towards the good for all animals.
Whenever we hear of cats/kittens in need of help or rescue, they are the first group to offer help.
In April of 2022 I saw a Facebook post with the cutest face attached. A small kitten who tugged at my head strings. I drove from Albany to AnimalKind a couple days later to meet her. She was shy and matted and I knew I wasn’t leaving without her. The staff at AnimalKind were wonderful that day and on the day of her spay. They took wonderful care of my baby before she was adopted and during the spay process. If and when my girls are ready for another sibling it will be from AnimalKind.
I have been rescuing from Animalkind for close to 20 years. Katrine and her staff go above and beyond for each kitten/cat. IOnce found in the middle of the road. The poor thing was in very bad shape. I tried to call the local vet to see if they would help and they refused without money. I called Animalkind and they said bring him up we will see what we can do. They worked so hard on him. They knew it wasn't my cat and they didn't ask me for a nickel. That is not the first time that they have helped an animal and a person who had nowhere to turn. They once had a fire in the middle of the night in a three-story building. Katrina and her staff I believe got every single cat out without any injury! You need to understand she doesn't house just one or two cats I'm going to guess she houses hundred. Those that don't get adopted get the privilege of living out their lives in this beautiful Brownstone. I admire this woman more than you can possibly know. I am grateful to everyone on her staff. I am blessed for all the beautiful cats and kittens that I have had the privilege of adopting. There's no better place.
After searching rescue sites for months and not finding a cat that called to me, I decided to visit AnimalKind to see if my perfect cat was there. As I was leaving not finding that special one, a beautiful white cat came walking towards me. There she was! The staff let me sit with her for as long as I wanted, but it didn’t take long to realize she was the one. Staff explained that she was 13 years old. I told them that was fine. I asked if they could have some blood work done to check her kidneys, thyroid and diabetes. It would not stop me from adopting her , just wanted to know what I was getting into. Her blood work was perfect and she came home with me the next weekend! She picked me and I’m so glad she did! The staff were just wonderful at AnimalKind and have checked in on us a couple times. Thank you to everyone there.
AnimalKind is such a special place! My husband and I are coming up on a year since we adopted our cat Poppy! They were so informative and let us meet all the cats before choosing the right fit. There was no pressure and the staff makes sure that it’s a good fit with wonderful follow ups! We could not be happier with the experience and wish we could adopt allllllllllll the cats!!
This is a top notch cat rescue. We got our Juniper from them and she's the best! Beyond that though they were easy to work with from the beginning. They also took the time to let us look at a LOT of cats. When we brought her back for her spay that event was also efficiently run. Can't say enough about the folks there and the work they do. The community is very lucky indeed to have them. I won't look anywhere else when I'm ready for my next cat.
Over the weekend I just dropped my tuxedo off who is sick he's FIV positive. So he'll be with other cats the same. My friend recommended me to Animal Kind. I've been taking care of tuxedo for 2 years. Tuxedo is actually 2 years old, and a couple of months. I'm grateful that they took my baby in, because they can do more for him than I can. I was more scared if him getting hit by a car, or not making it thru this Winter. Even thou I always boiled a whole Chicken/Turkey for my Colony. He was outcasted from his family and other animals. And people were throwing rocks at him and throwing sticks at him when he went to rest on other's properties. They felt like he was scroungy and filthy because he was skinny. Tuxedo doesn't have to go through anymore abuse, or any kind of neglect from others ever again. I took very good care of him. I truly and dearly miss Tuxedo and I would just like updates about my tuxedo and how's he doing. Thank You
Few months ago, I decided to adopt a cat!! Looking at PetFinder, I discovered Animalkind!! They were wonderful as I spent 3 hours to find the cat I would adopt!! After she cleared a veterinarian check, I adopted a sweet female cat!! All volunteers love the cats there and wonderful care! Would go back again, I decide to adopt another cat!! Very great work there saving homeless cats!!
I love AnimalKind. Katrin Hecker ROCKS, as well as her volunteers and staff. I have worked with Katrin over the years and she is unstoppable! Without AnimalKind, Columbia, Greene and all of the other neighboring counties would be a mess.

I found a tiny kitten on my porch a few years ago that I thought I couldn’t keep. I already had four cats at the time. I brought him to Animalkind to surrender, and they took care of his infected eye and gave him medical attention. They gave me all of the necessary medication for him for free and I decided to keep him after all. Here it is five years later and he’s doing great. They care for so many animals and I’m thankful they are in my community.
Animalkind is an outstanding organization that helps all animals in need. In 2019, they assisted me in capturing, neutering and spaying over 40 cats in a colony that is now under control. They depend on donations to maintain their organization which has saved thousands of animals in distress!
They helped my wife and I find cats that we still love to this day, in addition they worked with the Nursing Home I worked for, Livingston Hills, to find and place two Facility Cats there, whom the residents loved dearly and they loved the residents.
Cannot say enough about this wonderful place, thank you AnimalKind!
Animalkind offers a great service for feral cats helping control their overpopulation by their spay neuter vet care In addition they have save and rescue many thousands of cats over the years that they place up for adoption There are no such services that they offer anywhere in this area especially for ferals
AnimalKInd works hard to place every animal, no matter what the challenges! Feline leukemia cats are usually not adoptable, as people do NOT want to adopt a cat with a contagious, deadly disease. These cats can only live isolated from healthy cats, or with other feline leukemia cats. AnimalKind searched various sanctuaries for placement, but were never even getting back responses. Undeterred, they continued to contact other sources, until the positive cat they were holding was able to get a life long placement.
AnimalKind steps in for animals in need when our "humane" society refuses to. They really care for the animals, and I know because I have fostered for them and seen the care that goes into the screening for adoptions that they do.
Found kittens and they were the only ones who would help. Now all are happy a healthy. Thanks animalkind!!!
AnimalKind is there for those in need. They deliver compassion and knowledge and serve the community a service that no other does. They go above and beyond to help cats and their humans with all that they have to give. I felt helpless when I found an abandoned litter of kittens. I could never thank AnimalKind enough for being there when no one else was and thanks to them the litter of kittens thrived and are now healthy happy cats.
Wonderful people got my cat a lovely experience Katrin is completely dedicated to her position as Director

When I was not disabled, I used to trap feral cats near my home and have them neutered, vaccinated, ear clipped and released to their feral colony which was overseen by a responsible couple. Costs became prohibitive, and NOT ONE VETERINARY practice would do this necessary work for no charge or for a big discount. ANIMALKIND DID IT ALL FOR THOSE CATS I BROUGHT TO THEM, even though they were a different county.
I became a foster parent for Animalkind and continue to donate as much $ as I can.
This is an organization that is so very deserving of financial help. No matter how difficult the issue, the staff tries to find the solution. ANIMALKIND is needed now more than ever. Too many people do not understand that we must care for all creatures on this same earth with us. Please help them. They are always ready to help animals in need, but especially cats.
I took a neighborhood stray that we called “Riley” to AnimalKind to have him neutered and get his shots at a reasonable price. He became listless and stopped eating a couple of days after his surgery. I took him back thinking it might be an infection only to find he had an unrelated problem. He spent a month under their excellent care and I was only asked to give a donation! A month at the vets would have been exorbitant! He tested F.I.V. positive so has a problem with healing. He is in excellent shape now and he lives with us as an indoor, very spoiled kitty! I am grateful we have the availability of such a compassionate organization.
I adopted Bernie (now Salem) last December and what a joy he has been. A total love bug and goof ball. Animal Kind staff was super friendly and helpful in our adoption process.
Gracie ( former kitty Sydney) adopted a few months ago- doing great! She’s awesome playful and a little boss to her 3 siblings❣️Family is in love❣️
Love them ~ absolutely the best! Have brought them sick ferals and many that needed to be neutered. Excellent group.
At AnimalKind, everyone works tirelessly and passionately and with love to make sure that every kitty can have a happy and secure life. AnimalKind is the best!
Owner called me back when i left a message when they were closed on a Sunday a few years ago. I was desperate to find somewhere to bring an abandoned kitty and I had to leave the area & travel back to NYC - I was delighted to find the most wonderful, compassionate & kind woman who runs a fabulous “shelter” thats more like a warm loving home. Best animal rescue ever! I donate as much as possible!
Wonderful people here dedicated to felines that need help! I adopted a kitten 6 years ago and just this past week, helped a family friend find her new purr-fect pet and everyone was great!!
This is a fantastic rescue of mostly cats. They take the worst of the worst that many shelters either refuse or plan to euthanize and do everything possible to save them. I have adopted 4 cats from them that are great and their adoption fee is cheaper than most. Thank you Animalkind!!! ❤️
They helped me with a semi- feral cat.
Moon had a stubborn abcess. Every visit, I decided to stay a while, and it was amazing to see all the care they gave to both critters and the humans who walked in the door.
Rescues getting dozens spayed & neutered. An elderly man near tears with his old faithful companion, both the dog and he were treated with kindness, that his budget couldn't buy elsewhere.
I saw grateful hugs and tearful hugs, every visit. The entire staff, an efficient whirlwind, skilled vet techs, phones buzzed and were answered with compassion.
Because of them I was able to feed ferals, tame, treat, foster and rehome.
I was filled with joy and inspiration watching just how many or helped every time I was there.
Animalkind , the director and staff have always been there in my deepest moments of need with cat rescue cases even cats that weren’t animalkind cats. They devote their on AND off time to rescue..... THAT comes from the heart
This organization is constantly going above and beyond to care for and rescue animals in our area. I love seeing every time one gets adopted to a good home.
I love AnimalKind and Katrin Hecker. Not only have I volunteered for AK, AK has helped me so many times as well. AnimalKind is one of the best organizations in rescue that I have ever dealt with.

I have dealt with Katrin Hecker and Animalkind for over 10 years. She runs a tight ship, takes care of kitty business and is an amazing asset to the community. Katrin is unstoppable when it comes to animal rescue!
Her facility in Hudson is incredible. The cats are well taken care of, there is a vet on staff and all of the volunteers and staff are great
I have also volunteered with Animalkind and it was one of the most gratifying experiences.
My cat of 11 years passed away and I was heartbroken. I wasn't going to get a new cat for awhile and then someone told me about Animalkind. I went there and found my furever cat. They are a great organization and I will always look for another cat first. Highly recommend!!
We adopted 2 kittens from Animalkind over 17 years ago. We decided to adopt 2 kittens in July of this year several months after our 17 year old cat passed. It is evident how much the staff cares about the animals in their care and about animal welfare in general.
After growing up on a farm, cats were always about. Food and milk for them was plenty. Over time and age, the cows were sold, almost all the buildings knocked down. Except one. One day this pure black, round cat shows up. No trust in us at all. What do you do - put food out. A few weeks later, 3 kittens. What do you do? I'm a dog person. The local Humane Society doesn't really help you if you say feral - they are not adoptable. I go to Animalkind. I amazed at what's there. After speaking with Nancy, then Sarah- a plan evolves. Catch and release, spay/neuter and shots for the feral cat and kittens. Fast forward, another cat dropped off, 4 kittens later. This time slightly wiser, kittens caught, tested, spay neutered, and shots. Two of this litter were sick and had to be euthanized. The other two are with us now, one is now our house cat others have been vetted and are other outside cats. Total now six. One indoor 5 outdoor. they have access to food and water and insulated cat boxes (cat condo) to keep them warm and out of the weather.... I'm not savvy on cats, I don't claim to be. This group has a wealth of knowledge to help and teach people, thus helping the feline, or whatever creature in need comes in the door. They let you borrow have a heart traps to capture. Give you information on the care after the surgery. There's much more. But this is only a small part of a picture of what this group does. the staff have to run out and put quarters in the meters so they don't get tickets, they are forever cleaning rooms, litter boxes, linens etc. They are always doing something.....none of what we were able to do, would have happened had it not been for their help and guidance. We are unable to load pictures.
I have fostered kittens for the past year. Their love of animals and selfless efforts to find safe family homes for the animals that come their way is exemplary. I cannot speak highly enough about everyone that works there.
11 years ago we got 2 rescue kittens from animal kind in Hudson. The staff were very nice and loving to the animals. One of our cats Nala became a therapy cat for my son who has Sensory Intergration. They became best friends. She helped him through some tough times in his life. Unfortunately she was layed to rest this year do to kidney issues. The other cat Dopey Flopkins is a well loved, well fed, cuddliey momma's boy. Thank you animal kind for bringing these two into our lives.
I take care of a small feral colony. I noticed that one of my cats had what looked like a broken jaw. I trapped her and brought her in to AnimalKind for emergency surgery. To my relief, the cat only had her skin torn from her bottom jaw. They kept her for a week. I got her back home and decided to keep her inside. AnimalKind did not charge me which, as a retiree, I really appreciate. Animalkind helps animals, they rely on donations and many friends. They are a fantastic nonprofit organization.

I have four indoor cats and care for a small feral colony in Ravena, NY. In early July I had a stray or abandoned friendly cat in my yard. I cared for him for nearly 3 months while trying to find him a good home. I contacted Animalkind who gladly took him and have put him up for adoption, for which I am immensely appreciative. They do so much for any cat or kitten and so deserve recognition.
We take our dog there. They all love her. Nikki will get right on the floor with her and give her the shots she needs. No one is afraid of her. Dr P can't believe how well behaved she is. Sarah always says she know Scarlet will get cheese burgers after her visit. Dr. P figured out what her problem was and got right to fixing it, when the last vet did not even test for it. Turns out our Scarlet has a thyroid problem. Which is now under control. Thanks to the great people at AnimalKind
The staff there are all so helpful. We took my dads cat there. They cared for her for over a 1 year. Till she got her wings. The dr made sure that she was not in any pain. The staff all full in love with her. She was an amazing cat. Dr P. was great with her. And Nikki even came in on her days off to check on her. Send me pics and let me know she was doing ok. Sarah who is always at the desk always answered my questions, and if she couldn't she was sure to find someone who could and get right back to me.
About 2 years ago my family adopted to male cats from Animalkind. I really like the fact that they're all about saving animals and finding them good homes. They also do great things by neutering /spaying feral cats.
I adopted my cat from animal kind about 3 years ago we love him lots about a year ago my cat hurt his leg i brought him there to get checked out and they were amazing with him and it did not cost me an arm and leg i would recommend anyone to go their if they want to adopt.
I adopted my Amora from Animalkind a few years ago. They rescued her and her 3 siblings from a barn in the winter. Gave her all of her shots and dewormed her. They microchip each potential adoptee. They were nothing but fantastic to me and I recommend them whenever I can.
Animalkind is an incredible place. They treat each animal with great dignity and incredible compassion and do wonderful work in the community. A truly special place.
Fantastic charity that works so hard to help the animals. Wonderful opportunities to get involved as well. I always support this charity and am humbled by the dedication and care they give to the animals. Keep up the good work!
Animal kind has been a absolute life saver . We already had 7 cats .. when an 8th started stopping by. Big rambunctious male. We finally decided we would grab him and bring him to get neutered . Unfortunately he had gotten himself into some trouble with another animal. Guy has been in 3 leg casts for close to 3 months . They kept him for the first week and we've been taking him over every 2 or 3 days to have bandages changed . They have helped us with antibiotics and pain killers .
He's become a very spoiled member of our family.. we never would have been able to afford the care he's needed . The level of compassion we have seen between the staff and the "residents " is unsurpassed.
Animalkind truly cares about ALL cats in their territory. Their trap neuter and release program has saved thousands of kittens from being born and unwanted. They never turn a client away regardless of ability to pay. They have made an impact on the community that is for the benefit of all
If my states had a place as wonderful and dedicated to animals as Animalkind , then maybe more animals wouldn't be homeless or sick, this place is truly wonderful and I am very happy to say it is my favorite rescue of all time
Animalkind has helped several times with taking in feral cats that I have found. They have helped to spy and neuter the cats. Their facility is always clean. I am so glad that Animalkind is around to help.
I was first introduced to Animalkind in 2006 maybe. I put out a plea for help and Katrin called me and said she'd help! I was elated and relieved. It was a sad situation of a cat who's elderly owner died and was very unsocial. She needed rescue. Our local shelter was closed and animal control was going to destroy her. That was my first experience.
Many years later, I have a situation and remember Katrin's kindness and willingness to give the underdogs (cats in this instance) a shot at life. Kittens that needed help socializing, had potential but I was at the end of my expertise. Animalkind came to the rescue once again!
I hadn't been there in probably 10 years (I live many hours away) and was amazed at the transformation. Animalkind has rejuvenated since the fire way back when and what a wonderful facility for kitties! It's clean, friendly and totally Zen. What a wonderful place to visit ... AND ADOPT!
I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD ABOUT ANIMAL KIND. MY CAT, NEEKO, WAS HIT BY A CAR AND A GOOD SAMARITAN, WHO SAW IT HAPPEN, BROUGHT HIM TO ANIMAL KIND. THEY TOOK X`RAYS, FIXED HIS DISLOCATED HIP, ALIGNED THE BROKEN BONES IN HIS RIGHT LEG AND SECURED IT IN A SPLINT AND CAST. ALSO, THEY GAVE HIM ALL OF HIS SHOTS, DEWORMER AND GAVE HIM A MICROCHIP.....ALL OF THIS......THEY DID FOR FREE....YES, FREE!!
THEY TRULY CARE FOR THESE ANIMALS AND TAKE SUCH GREAT CARE OF THEM. THEY DO ALL OF THIS THROUGH VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS. GOD BLESS THEM ALL!
i want to give a big thank u to animal kind for all their help when i was in a situation that i had to get rid of my cats they are a great place and i would recommend them to any one either for help or looking for a pet they are awesome people and the greayest help when u in a difficult situation . thank u again for all ur help
I would like to express my gratitude to animalkind for going above and beyond to help me out of a desperate situation. I was down by the Hudson river and came upon a beautiful grey cat huddled in the corner of an open building. It was a cold winter day and the poor thing was lying in the wet leaves and mud and wouldn't move. It was obvious he/she was either sick, weak, or both because he was just lying there and wouldn't get up. Every time I got close to him/her, he would growl and hiss so I had no idea what to do. I called many places but since it was New Years day, no one was willing to help. Animalkind was the only one to get back to me and promptly met me where Katrin scooped up the cat like a pro and had him/her in the warm carrier and soon in the van on it's way to warmth and safety. I know that cat would not have made it through another cold night and I can't even begin to express the relief I felt seeing that van drive away, knowing the cat would have a warm, safe place in a very short time. Thank you so much for your compassion and prompt actions that surely saved this beautiful cat's life.
Animalkind is amazing! They not only adopt out the most adorable cats but they also help my mom out with food and spaying and neutering our ferals. They do amazing work and unlike other places they have never turned us down
Thank you animalkind!! You are amazing!!! If it wasn't for you, we couldn't make it!!! Your love and compassion are immeasurable, and so very appreciated, forever!!!
I have called several humane society and I have be unable to get any help anywhere for these cats. this is the only place that would help me. thank you so much. I apprciate the work you do.
I highly reccommend adopting from here! We got our cat, Pumpkin, from here and shes a sweetheart, along with the other cats here who have been safely rescued. Please adopt from Animalkind!
I think this is a very good organization because it helps animals. Its a shame that everybody is not as nice as the people that give up there time to help animals like they do at animalkind,
Michael Langton
I cannot say enough good things about AnimalKind of Hudson, after being rejected by the Columbia County Humane Society, they accepted a stray cat that I have been feeding and was able to catch this morning. Thank you so much.
We adopted the first 2 of our 6 kitties at Animalkind. The animals were so obviously loved and cared for. It was not sterile and cold like many animal shelters are. We were provided with a certificate to get our girls spayed, as well as follow up meds for our Angelica, who had a respiratory infection, which cleared up in no time thanks to the antibiotic that was provided free of charge. Also, Angelica was provided with a follow up feline leukemia test due to the background of her family. We support Animalkind as often as we can with small donations...every dollar counts! Look on the web page and you will see the faces and hear the stories of the most downtrodden little fur babies that have been saved (some nursed back to health) by the loving people of this organization. We are certain to adopt from Animalkind again in the future.
Five years ago I quite by accident, discovered a heaven for cats right next to a Diner on Warren Street in Hudson NY. In amazement I stared at a room full of laid back cats under expert care and kindness. It actually inspired me to a visit a shelter the next day in my own home of Pittsfield,Mass.where on the spot, I became a three times a week DOG ! walker forthe next 5 years. Just recently I adopted an injured stray cat from my back yard. I immediately thought of ANIMALKIND as the place to go for medical care and advice. On our first visit Dr.Pete and Nikki made amazing transformation in just 30 minutesfor my new companion named Black Shadow, He was Inoculated, neutered, rabies shots and given a full exam and treatment of his injured leg, plus a Micro chip. When I returned to the lobby Jo was waiting with adoption papers, his rabies certificate and take home meds. AMAZING !
I would recommend their guidance and services any one looking to adopt or care for any cats. Ihope others will join me in supporting their on going compassionate mission to care for the stray and feral cats in the greater Hudson area. Please be assured if there are ANGELS on EARTH a good many of them work and volunteer at ANIMALKIND in Hudson NY.
They have helped many cats who have been abandoned and nurtured sick ones that others gave up on. I follow many of their touching stories and am inspired.
this place is wonderful and has very friendly and loving staff members and volunteers. They take great care of their animals.
Animalkind is a vital element to Hudson. Every town should have one! The staff are professional and compassionate, and the cats are wonderful.
very helpul, helped a lot and kind to animals. We had no idea what we were doing and they helped helped provide us information and a safe place for our animals.
Animalkind is an amazing organization!!!! They do so many awesome things to help the community and kitties from all over the area near and far! If your ever in the area its a place you must stop and check out!
Animalkind shows true compassion when I didn't have funds that regular vet would charge but wanted to know why my dogs were sick they examined them and provided blood tests and medicines needed
I am forever indebted to them and was able to set up payment plan
I have 3 kitties from Animalkind that bring joy to our lives. As I sit here at my moms bedside (she is on hospice) I see our little Maya, one of our rescues, at my moms side, she only leaves to eat drink and do her business and otherwise she will not leave her side. You cannot buy that kind of love and dedication. I cannot thank Animalkind enough for all that they do.
I tried to rescue a kitten I found who had been kit by a car. The first vet I took it to put her on a heating pad for a few hours, said nothing was broken, and sent her home.
That night she had a seizure. My mother brought her to Animalkind, who determined that the kitten had a broken leg, and that infection had set in. Animalkind gave her antibiotics, set her up with a longer term heating pad, and did everything they could to save the kitten. Unfortunately, the infection was too bad and she passed away. But in the last few days her life, the kitten was loved and warm and cared for. And we have animalkind to thank for that.
Animal Kind and their staff go the extra mile for care and compassion of animals. I am a kitten foster for this organization and I have a lot of praise and kudos to shout out to them. From injured, to abandon, to ferral, to abused, this organization helps them all. The volunteers who come in daily just to pet and love the cats also deserve the praise. This organization is truly 5 stars.
COMPASSION. GOES ABOVE AND WAY BEYOND WHAT MUNICIPAL SHELTERS DO. NO LIFE IS BEYOND HOPE. ITS THE STATUE OF LIBERTY FOR ANIMALS--THE TIRED, THE WRETCHED, THE OUTCASTS. HUNDREDS AND POSSIBLY IN THE THOUSANDS OF ANIMALS WHO WOULD BE EASILY EUTHANIZED ELSEWHERE ARE PATIENTLY GIVEN EVERY CHANCE TO LIVE. DOES NOT MATTER HOW TRAGIC THE CONDITION. STAFF ARE TOTALLY AND PERSONALLY INVOLVED IN EACH CASE. GIVES "RESCUE" A WHOLE NEW MEANING. Volunteered at Animalkind and adopted from them also.
Animalkind is far more than an animal shelter. It's a legend throughout NY's Hudson Valley for the extreme commitment of Animakind's staff and supporters to the welfare and health of felines all across the region. My family have benefited fromAnimalkind in two ways: we adopted our wonderful pet Abby there, and we also delivered to their care a pair of stray kittens that had taken up residence in our yard during an especially brutal winter, and found them a forever home. Animalkind provides education on feline health and also low-or no-cost spay & neuter services, and also helps to motivate the public on issues related to animal welfare and prevention / prosecution of domestic animal abuse. Finally, Animalkind is one of the few no-kill shelters in lower NY State - in my opinion, that demonstrates their true love of cats but also makes it so necessary that they receive funding, since they are dedicated to the long-term sheltering and medical care of the lucky kitties in their care.
Great experience and they do such great work. They always take in the cats and kittens that no other place takes in and it's such an amazing thing.
I adopted my dog from them.. even though they're a cat rescue, they never turn any needy animal away. They are a true rescue, and one of the most hard working.
I support them and give them them an A+ rating.
When a neighbor passed away and his mean old cat escaped the house when people were carelessly going in and out without using caution. Although Animalkind agreed to take her, neither my family nor animal control were able to trap her. Animalkind helped us tremendously by giving us a cat shelter so that she would at least be out of the elements during that horrible winter. Chachi (the cat) used it and from there began to build trust in us. Although Chachi couldn't live indoors with us, she spent her nights either in the (surprisingly!) warm shelter from Animalkind, or on our front porch snuggled in blankets.
Animalkind not only made it possible for the cat to stay in her own neighborhood (VERY important to a cat!) but it made it possible for her to be able to continue patrolling the home she lost when her owner passed away.
I'm thankful that Animalkind was there when we needed them. Because of them, we learned to love a mean old cat...who eventually learned to love us back.
I have volunteered for animal kind for 9 years off and on. Truly wonderful no kill shelter. Of the over 100 cats I have fostered I did keep 1. Her name is Betty and I am so grateful to Animal Kind for bringing us together. Xo
I love this organization! It's great to see someone who will take in kittens when other turn their backs. I also have it set up for Amazon to donate to them every time I place an order!
Katrin has been helping the kitties for so long. I adopted 2 babies from her 15 years ago and they are still going strong!
My 2 felines were adopted from here in 2006! From all the great reviews I've read, and from my personal experiences w my cats, Animalkind rules! Their atmosphere/setup provided my cats w amazing & loving personalities. With the cage-free shelter, you can see major independence in my cats! I highly suggest anyone searching for a cat, Animalkind should be your 1st & only choice!
Animalkind is an amazing organization with an amazing staff. They are always willing to help our local community.
My daughter & I noticed kittens who were in need of help last year: semi-feral, severely malnourished & had infected eyes. We called AnimalKind after we rescued 1 of them, & AnimalKind was able to rescue several others & get them 100% healthy , then adopted into fur-ever homes. Great work by a true community cat rescue group!
We were so impressed with this facility. Thank God an organization like this exists. They take in those poorly neglected animals that would have otherwise been left to suffer or die on their own and provide them a 2nd chance at life. Our own lives were blessed when we adopted a cat from here. These people really care for animals and they prove it time and time again. Immaculate facility. You are surely to find a cat or kitten that will steal your heart, as ours did. We renamed him Pancho (formerly known as Avery when at the shelter) He loves to cuddle, enjoys belly rubs, eating and especially sleeping on us at night. A true love bug.
i've adopted 4 kitties from animalkind, always adults (as with most rescues, they've always got plenty in need). the animalkind team is tireless in accomplishing their mission, and goes to extraordinary lengths to rescue, spay/neuter, and find homes for cats (and the occasional dog).
They have pulled so many pets that were on death row, from those whose guarians had died, been arrestd or evicted or just grew tired and left them at the nyc high kill shelter.
I have seen wonderful rescues happen from afar (I'm in Texas) from following this amazing organization! I am proud to be a donor and will continue to support the great group of rescuers at Animal kind!!!
I worked with Animalkind for about a year, and so was able to see the operation from the inside. One of my duties was to answer the phone. If any calls came in about abused or wounded animals, Katrin would jump out of her chair and drive over to the emergency. She would bring the injured cat and tend to her wounds immediately. I was very impressed that she didn't hesitate to save the cat or kittens. Katrin and Animalkind have been a godsend for Columbia and Greene counties, as well as the cats in the kill shelters of NYC.
My husband and I run a small non-profit cat rescue and Animalkind, its director and staff, have always been great at helping us out with advice, medications, clinic appointments for low-cost spaying and neutering of the many feral and stray cats we take in. We volunteer at many of their fundraising programs; we are more than willing to lend a hand with projects that help promote their mission and raise awareness. They are a tremendous resource for the local communities and the amount of cats, kittens (and dogs too) they have helped over the years is amazing. We have seen the rebuilding of the shelter after the fire/water damage and each year more improvements continue to create a bright, happy environment for the cats and kittens waiting adoption.
We adopted our three fur babies from this wonderful organization. They are caring, dedicated animal lovers who place these cats in loving forever homes.
This organization is wonderful. They give kittens and cats a chance at life and help control the feral population. I contribute mostly thru my employer and attend fundraisers and donate items needed through out the year. What I love is they rescue sickly cats that would be euthanized and give them a second chance.
Animalkind has saved countless cats from the NYC ACC kill list and continues to help people save cats from death when they are not even located in the city. I volunteer on a Facebook page that helps give people rescue info to save these cats and Animalkind is one of the top recommended rescues that we give to people who live in the upstate NY area.
truly an amazing and life saving organization... animalkind will forever get my donations. thank you for doing what you do, and saving so many precious kitties.
AnimalKind goes above and beyond for our furry friends, esp. cats. Their care, love and commitment is amazing. We have 4 cats from them and I love the way they did real checkups on the potential people looking to adopt. Shelter is set up nicely too, love the open feel of the place.

We came across AnimalKind.info in 2014 and it changed our lives. We ended up adopting 2 incredible cats( already had 2 at home). One was an injured kitten who AK saved from being put down. They saw her potential and the love she had to give. They nursed her back to health (after a few surgeries) and she is the most fearless cat. She is grown and healthy but she is deaf and partially blind but so full of spunk!
The facility is great since it is cage free. The set up allows for the cats to interact and play with each other. The people at AK are amazing souls who love and care for these kittys waiting for their forever homes. They do thorough background checks which is so important these days.
AnimalKind does amazing work finding homes for these babies and also participate in the TNR program.
Looking for unconditional love, look no further AnimalKind is a short drive.
Anyone looking to adopt in the upstate/ capital region area should go to AnimalKind.
The facility is one amazing place.
I first heard about Animalkind after the fire they had. I followed the re-building process and loved the fact that they had colony rooms where the cats could interact freely with each other and the public. We have volunteered on several occasions to help socialize the cats. They were wonderful last summer when we found a litter of kittens. They provided medical care at a reasonable fee and helped us to socialize them. We found homes for the three of them. Just recently, a family friend surrendered her cat to a kill shelter when she became unable to keep him. No family or friends could rescue him due to various reasons. Animalkind stepped up and pulled him. He is now safe in their care while they try to find him a new home. The volunteers are wonderful and truly compassionate.
Quite simply, one of THE BEST. Amazing to work with, loving, kind, sweet, professional, enthusiastic, and with the concerns of the animals at the forefront of every relationship!
Fabulous organization offering much needed TNR services for communities, saving cats on a daily basis, rescuing cats from high kill shelters and helping pet owners with low cost services.
I became involved with AnimalKind after my Mom passed. She was a big animal lover and I wanted to continue her kindness to animals, I feed a bunch of feral cats daily. There were about 5 cats that were not spayed or neutered. I had already taken two batches of kittens to them and wanted to stop all these new kittens being born. I have fostered for Animalkind and when one little kitten got very ill, they told me to take him to my vet for care. They paid the entire bill. I called several places in my area and no one else would help. AnimalKind stepped up to the plate, found homes for the kittens and spayed and neutered the feral cats. Every employee there is a true gem. Animal welfare is their first concern.
I have asked vets to assist and they only cared about being paid and my answer every time was the same....."there's no room at the Inn". I was there today having a cat neutered. I have baked cupcakes and sold them to help them and recently sold flowers. Please do whatever you can to assist this great place. There are truly one of a kind.......
Animalkind takes in homeless, feral and injured cats. They have an amazing cage-free shelter in Hudson, NY. The shelter is separated into many different rooms with glass doors and windows and each little room holds around 3-10 cats. When visiting the shelter, you are allowed to walk around and enter the various rooms to visit the cats. The cats generally seem relaxed and happy. It helps that their rooms are furnished with all sorts of pet furniture, much of which is built into the walls so they are able to explore and seek privacy off the floor.
Animalkind thoroughly reviews applications from potential owners and verifies two references per applicant. Before sending a cat to her new home, they take a stool sample for medical testing, de-worm and de-flea the cat, and cut her nails. This is in addition to what they do upon bringing the cat into the shelter: spaying (or neutering), vaccinating, and microchipping.
The workers at the Animalkind are kind and knowledgeable. They have records on every cat so that you can find out exactly how your new furry family member came to be at the shelter. They do not require any adoption fee in fact do not even ask for a donation when you take your new kitty home.
I am highly impressed with the amount of cats they rescue and heal, their big kill-free shelter, and their customer service with pet adopters.
Going on 12 years ago I adopted a kitten from Animalkind. She was only a few weeks old and had been left in a cardboard box in the rain on the side of the road with the rest of her litter. Their mommy was nowhere to be found. They were cold, starving, malnourished, scared, and covered in ear mites and fleas. The poor babies probably never would have survived very much longer. Animalkind had taken these poor kittens in and gave them a fighting chance when no one else would. I brought my new best friend home and named her Kira. She became the most lovable, funny, quirky cat...and I won't lie, she got a bit chubby! Sadly, in September of 2013 we found out Kira had an aggressive form of cancer, and it had spread. Although it broke my heart to no end, it was time to let her go. To this day, I am grateful to Animalkind for saving Kira and giving both of us a chance to find eachother. She had a chance at love and happiness because you saved her. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
Quite a while ago, I had the opportunity to write for a locale newspaper with a focus on stories about animal shelters and rescues. Animalkind was one of the rescues on my list. I wrote several stories from the pet perspective in an effort in increasing cat and other animal adoption in the area. To be able to write a good story I had to drive to Animalkind to meet the staff and residents. I was blown away by the commitment and dedication of the staff who worked tirelessly to ensure no animal was turned away. I also lost my heart to two special residents, Oskar a young orange tabby with neurological issues and who the staff considered that he would always be a resident based on his problems. Secondly, my heartstrings were pulled by Emily, a beautiful orange and white kitty who dragged her hind leg due to an injury (I am not saying who or how because I don't know) that hadn't been corrected in time. Needless to say, both Oskar and Emily (renamed SweetiePie) came home with me that day. My husband and I truly had our little family (which included several more strays and an African Albino Claw Footed Frog)and we lived happily until SweetiePie and Oskar crossed the rainbow bridge. I cannot say enough about this organization who also, inquired about our two founding and actually stopped in to see them and how they related to their new home. These folks are the best and if I had a million dollars I would give to them so they could continue their good work with adopting out those beautiful creatures and not to mention their terrific efforts with feral cat sanctuaries.
I have donated my help and worked at Animal Kind. It's amazing how well each cat is memorized and individualized from the rest. They keep the place immaculate and its very home/cozy for the cats.
We offered to foster two kittens that were feral since they were going to be euthanized at a shelter for spitting. They were love bugs and we decided to keep them. It was a good decision since the siblings had a genetic epilepsy but they are doing great. One takes meds every day the other doesn't.
These feral cats are now like shadows the male cat is like a dog he just can't get enough of you. Animal Kind was very helpful in the beginning when we just were discovering their genetic flaw in health, and we got it straightened out.
Thanks Katrin for going to the vet with us too.
We recently adopted a male cat named Avery and found this to be anImmaculate facility that offers great interaction with adoptable animals. Great staff that is kind, caring and sensitive to ALL those precious animals in need of help. Thank goodness there is such a place to shelter and care for these loving creatures while they wait for their forever home. Highly recommend this place if you are looking to open your home to a loving cat or kitten or help donate to help this establishment continue administering their day to day care for these lovable animals in need.
We have adopted 4 cats from Animal Kind in the last two yrs n they have been a wonderful addition to our family plus I've volunteered an event in May at our local petsmart. I share Animal Kind posts as much as possible
