Mission: The mission of the organization is to provide food and shelter to allow animals to be adopted rather than destroyed.
Programs: The organization meets its goals in several ways. Foremost, unwanted cats and dogs are provided free shelter, food and medical care. Additionally, approximately 350 dogs and cats are placed into homes after recovery and re-acclamation with people. Currently, the more than 399 dogs and cats that are not adopted are cared for on-site for the duration of their lives. During the year, the organization recieved 230,800 in donated veterinarian and other professional services which were also instrumental in caring for these unwanted animals. Finally, the center provides education to the public on responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering through tools such as its calendars aimed at showcasing these issues.
I volunteered at ARC several years ago and was very impressed with the set-up, the services and the employees. I have since made several donations to the organization. They are excellent about having just the right amount of contact, and letting me know how money is spent. But the best experience was when I went in as a client. They listened to what I was looking for in a companion animal, made suggestions and gave me plenty of time with the dogs. They let me bring my dog in to make sure he got along with the dog I chose. Their trainer even came to my house to ease the transition, and gave me training tips. Animal Refuge Center is wonderful!
