The Animal League of Gaston County's Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic has provided tremendous support to the animal population as well as those who need affordable care for their pets. Recently, a local police officer rushed a puppy who had been shot and was fading fast to the clinic. Staff there were able to quickly stabilize the puppy and according to local news coverage, he is recovering well with the family who found him in their yard when he was injured. This kind of compassionate help is always available whether it is food, an emergency, or affordable spay-neuter services. They have helped me through difficult times with beloved pets and I am grateful for the assistance they provide me and the citizens of Gaston County.
During my many years of fostering, I have had the pleasure of working with and for the Animal league of Gaston county. The staff are helpful and pleasant, the cost of care is within the reach of many clients. I find that I am always looking for opportunities to help a community of helpers! The animal league allows clients to properly care for their furry companions at a lower cost than most vets in the area. Helping to keep our community safe through the monthly vaccine clinics, providing the community with low cost vaccines.
Gaston Low Cost Spay and Neuter is an outstanding example of meeting the needs of the community! They offer affordable options to low-income families - and folks that are frugal! The quality of care delivered with compassion for the animals (and the human) is astounding.
I have supported the Animal League for many years. What they have and continue to provide to our community is invaluable. Thousands of animals and their owners have benefited greatly from the myriad of services the Animal League provides.
Thank you for providing such great care for our two senior dogs who were in desperate need of a teeth cleaning. The techs and staff were terrific and the dogs did fantastic! Such an amazing facility!!
I’ve had the pleasure of working with ALGC as a volunteer, a board member, and frequent foster mom for various cats and kittens. In every instance I have witnessed their compassion, professionalism and kindness towards animals and their people. This organization is always looking for additional ways to serve our community and continues to be a leader in all aspects of animal care. We are very lucky to have such a stellar resource in Gastonia.
I have been a volunteer for the Animal League of Gaston County for more than 6 years as I write this review. I couldn't be prouder to help animals through this organization. Since 2009 the Animal League has run the Gaston Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic. They have altered more than 90,000 animals as I write this review. They have made such an impact that Gaston County Animal Care and Control has reduced their intake of animals from nearly 9000/year to close to 3000 this year. The euthanasia rate has been greatly reduced, too.
They have dipped their toes in the water starting a wellness clinic and serviced in 2 years more than 20,000 animals. Most of the people they serve would not go to a vet if it weren't for their low prices. They hope to have a full service affordable vet clinic in 2025 to service many more pets.
The Animal League also has a food pantry for people on public assistance and those who show a need. These folks can come by twice a month to get cat and or dog food to help the owners feed their animals. This is just the start. The organizations CEO and Executive Director are retired attorneys. I share this because they not only have passion for animals but they organize well.
Another retired attorney runs their Pets to Go program and at this point she has found homes for more than 2000 animals. She answers emails, calls and texts promptly in addition to putting up great photos of the animals.
Another program they run is "Room to Run" where dogs who have been on chains their whole life get a fence made by volunteers and subsidized by grants and private donors. All the animals in the house get a free spay or neuter, including cats that are pets.
The people who run this organization fill a need for animals and do it exceptionally well.
I have had the privilege of using this organization to find my two beautiful cats. They go above and beyond for animals. Just recently they were instrumental in saving a dogs life brought in by a police officer that had just been shot. The story made the local news. Please see pics of my cat when animal league rescued him and now. He owes them his life and I am forever grateful.
I have volunteered with ALGC for 5 years. The work they do for the benefit of animals and their owners is beyond belief. Their low cost spay neuter clinic has now spayed or neutered over $80,000 pets. Some of their other programs include No Cold Pets (free dog and cat houses), Room to Run (building fences to get dogs off of chains), low cost dental surgeries and now they are opening a low cost full service vet office. With rising costs these low cost services are critical to so many pet owners. ALGC runs all these programs in an efficient, organized and friendly manner keeping the mission of serving animals always at the forefront.
The Animal League of Gaston County (ALGC) has made its mission to help people in the community to care for and keep their pets. Since opening the Low Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic some 90,000 plus dogs and cats have been altered. This has been a major factor in keeping the population down in our County Animal Shelter. In the last year ALGC has opened a wellness clinic with renovations in the process to open a full service veterinary clinic. They have food programs, funding to help low income clients, supply houses for feral cat colonies and outdoor dogs. They even have a program to build a fenced kennel area to get dogs off of chains and give them a place to run around. ALGC is active in adoption efforts and with rescues including transports to the northeast to supply rescues with fully vetted adoptable pets. The ALGC even has a representative that serves on the County Commissioner’s Animal Care & Enforcement Advisory Board who work on ordinances and policies that protect the animals in our community.

I started my journey with Animal League as a volunteer and have also been a board member. Over the years I have seen Animal League grow and do amazing work. One of my passions is volunteering with their Room-To-Run program which builds fences for dog living on chains. All animals in the home are spayed/neutered at no charge and vaccinated at no charge and then a fence is built by volunteers to get them off the chains. Their No Cold Pets program is also another program close to my heart. Dog houses are given away, along with straw, to families that cannot afford a dog house. They work closely with our Animal Control and Enforcement who inform families where they can pick up a house. I also volunteer at the vaccination clinic each month where they provide vaccinations at a low cost on a walk-in basis. We vaccinate between 150-200 animals within 4 hours. Providing affordable S/N and vaccinations is critical for those on tight budgets. Soon the new clinic will be able to provide affordable vet services also.
I have volunteered with Animal League for more than 5 years and I am positively blown away by the work they do to save and improve the lives of cars and dogs in our area. Some of the stories are both heartbreaking and heartwarming, like the cat who was rescued from a crack house with burns on 100% of its body including its feet. Animal League took it in, restored it to health and found it a new forever home (and didn’t charge a thing). They make regular vet care affordable for people on public assistance as well as regular working folk. Now they are building a state-of-the art affordable vet hospital that is the first of its kind in this area. Everything they do puts the animal first. They have saved literally thousands of pets lives. These are some of the most dedicated people I have ever known.
