I took in my pug to be evaluated because she has a liver shunt. During the previous visit the vet had told us she would get worse. When we arrived I was so distraught thinking this was the end. When the vet came out to talk to us she stated that the cost of the liver shunt services (surgery) would be 5,000 or if we wanted her medical expenses paid we could surrender her to a rescue called Animal Friend Rescue. The vet saw I was crying and just distraught. All I wanted was to save her life. The vet didn't give me other options that there were. She only gave us 5 minutes to come up with a Decision. That night we surrendered her. After speaking to somebody from a pug group, they told me about all the options I had. I called the vet trying to get my beloved Yumi back. They pushed me off to the rescue. I called the rescue No answer. I emailed the rescue and they told me that I had been given all my options which was a complete lie. I emailed them back telling them I had been taken advantage of and that I wanted my yumi back. No response. I was tricked into giving up my beloved yumi. I miss her and I love her. I've been following her on the rescues page, seems like these ladies already have a plan to keep her. I also found out that this animal rescue put her out to be a parvo pup to get funds from people. They made about $400 + from this lie. I have tested her sister and parents , no parvo. Shame on you guys for doing this. Shame on you.
We were originally asked to work with their cats and that was okay.
Then we were asked to work with dogs and it got worse. We were given no follow up support, left to fend for ourselves and messages were largely ignored. Our landlord was gracious enough to let us foster and we had no complaints, until the day A senior staff came to retrieve a dog we were unable to foster any longer. She had illegally parked and when he asked her to move her vehicle, she became argumentative with him and tried to bully him. Her attitude enraged him, so that he had her perm entry barred from the property.
When a rescue gives you a animal to care for, you hope to get the necessary tools to help. Requiring your volunteers to provide EVERYTHING and refusing to honor agreements, made it impossible to work with AFRP. The staff member whom caused us consistent problems is still running a large part of their program and the reason we no longer work with AFRP.
AFRP volunteers find forever homes for rescued animals in the Monterey, CA area. They are located in Pacific Grove, CA
About 5 years ago I adopted a beautiful Calico cat from AFRP. She had been there for two years and because she was an older cat(2yrs. at the time) and a bit overweight...I'd say she's a beautiful grande gatto...she hadn't been adopted by anyone. If fact, AFRP had special note by her pen which said "Compassionate Adoption". Well, the first cat I ever guarded over was a Calico and she was about the same size as this cat...well, this 'Compassionate Adoption" kitty touched my heart so much that day, she has been with me ever since and she's the sweetest cat ever.
If you have a place in your home and heart for an older cat or one who may have disability issues, a "Compassionate Adoption from AFRP would be a wonderful choice. They also have many dogs, cats, bunnies and other animals for adoption. You can visit and see their available pets at their location on Lighthouse Ave., in Pacific Grove...just look for the purple store front.
AFRP saves lives. Our Foster program is large and thriving helping to get dogs and cats of of harms way and out of shelters into our loving program. With us they calm down and start to trust again. Their medical needs addressed. With Animal Friends they are respected, loved and cared for. They are with us until they each find their new forever home. We network with out of state rescues to get animals adopted. We do transports to cities and states where they have a lack of dogs to fill the adoption requests. And much much more for those who have no voice.
