Five years ago, my grandchild got burnt...she was two, and pulled the cord on a crockpot, and the contents poured over her...it was full of hot water, beans, hot dogs? ....idk....I was at work at the time, and she was with her father at the other grandmother's house.....911 took her to our local hospital, but they did not have a burn unit, so the Shriners came and flew her to Ohio....ever since, any time she needs to return to Cincinnati for follow-up medical visits, AFE has always been right there....I can't even begin to tell you all how wonderful they have been to us....every flight has been free, often the pilots give her gifts...right now there is this beautiful doll stroller here at my grandchild's home, an awesome gift from Al and Claire...we are blessed...it has been hell to go thru this experience, and AFE has been with us every step of the way...I can not say enough good things about this organization...I work full time retail and my husband is disabled, so we are very fortunate to have the awesome folks at Angel Flight be there for us...we could never have done this otherwise....if you have money to donate or want an excuse to fly, please think AFE....our ferocious little Kara is very lucky to have them be a part of her life.....
I lost my first wife to cancer. Before this, I had begun to volunteer and flew for another organization from the south. Bernadette at Angel Flight Soars suggested after I moved back to the Cleveland, OH area to contact Angel Flight East. I did and enjoy flying people that need our help. I have been blessed with the ability to fly and this is a small way for me to pay that back. Fortunately, my wife Cindy did not need this service, but in memory of her I am glad to do this.
My son has been having surgeries since he was 3.5 months old, he is now 13. We have to travel from NC to VA an 8 hr drive . If it wasn't for Angel Flight and their amazing staff there is no way we would have been able to make our appts. The pilots are so friendly they treat you like family, tell their stories, listen to yrs ,pray with you, for you, and sometimes allow you to hold the wheel.. thank you Angel Flight for being such a great part of our lives, we love you and couldn't do with out you.. God Bless
I am a pilot for three Angel Flight organizations. Because I live in the Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania, AFE has more missions near to my home base than any other medical mission organization. I find that their mission coordinator provides good support and a record of my charitable contribution. I like flying patients for Angel Flight
East. The Rev. Thomas M. Johnston
They fly me to Long Island NY for cancer treatment every other week. This saves me a 7 1/2 hr. drive. Great service, Great people!
Angel Flight East has been flying my mom and I to Philadelphia every 8 weeks for almost 2 1/2 years for me to receive treatment for a rare condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. If it weren't for AFE I wouldn't be able to afford to travel to Philadelphia where I receive cutting edge treatments by a team of medical providers that listen to my concerns and continuously watch for changes in my disease progression. Since we fly into Wings Field, the base for AFE, the office staff have become like family. Every pilot that has flown us has the utmost concern for our safety and comfort during our flight. We now have many of the same pilots and enjoy catching up during the flight. I am eternally grateful for AFE.
Why I got involved with Angel Flight East.
http://www.angelflighteast.org/index.html
I got involved with Angel Flight because my hangar buddy, Dale Adams (of course Dale also flies for Angel Flight East) approached me about getting involved flying people who were in need of medical assistance. My first thought was, I am not qualified to fly other people outside of family & friends even though I did meet the pilot requirements set forth by AFE. After some thought & prayer, I decided that this would be a great way to use the airplane. I can stay current on my flying ability & also help those in need to get from point A to point B for treatment. I have been so blessed by my God in heaven and to be able to bless others, well that is truly an awesomely incredible thing! I truly come away blessed by the individuals I get to fly!
That leads me to the Martin family, the patient Brayton, dad Coty, mom Lisa and little sister Mylah. They typically fly to Cincinnati once a year and when I know they are going I do my best to be able to take them. It is a 2.5 hr flight so I will stay over with them at the same hotel till the next day after treatment and fly them home. Oh yea, they live 20 min from where I live which is pretty cool. My wife, Alana and I have had them over to our home in the past and we have been invited to the Martin home also. After the first time I flew the Martins, I knew I wanted to fly them every time I could.
It is awesome the true miracle child Brayton is! In 2010 I transported this little guy in a car seat with tubes coming out of his body and not looking to healthy. I just completed flying Brayton, his mom and dad to Cincy in May and I look at Brayton today and I see a boy who looks like any other boy his age. There are things the Martins still have to deal with but overall Brayton looks great! And thanks to AFE and all the pilots out there who give of their time, energy and dollars to bless others, Brayton and many others have a chance at life! And isn’t that one of the reasons why we are placed on this place called earth so we can help/bless others….but in the end we pilots become the one blessed!
This is just a small example of what blesses me because it is truly a blessing to transport those in need! And it's all because Angel Flight East saw the need to find transportation for patients that need to get from point A to point B for treatment that otherwise the patient wouldn't be able to get too or would be too costly.
PS. I would not have entered this contest had it not been for the fact Angel Flight East would be the recipient of the 5k if I win because I prefer to be more private about things in my life. My goal is to see Angel Flight East promoted because of the tremendous job they do!

All of this came about because of Angel Flight East. The only bummer was Angel Flight East was hardly mentioned in the news clip because my whole purpose was to get Angel Flight East recognized!
