This will be my 11th year to somehow be involved with Angel Covers as a sponsor or as a volunteer. Great organization. True hearts. Efficient financial stewards. Dedicated sponsors and purposeful projects. So much more can be done through this small but mighty organization!
Angel Covers hosted a great event of wine tasting, food, and a silent auction. They shared their history and a personal story of a few of the children. It was very inspiring to see all of these people coming together in support of this wonderful nonprofit. They definitely do great work and touch many lives to make them better!
As my family and I continue to be involved with Angel Covers we are inspired by the volunteers and especially the kids. The volunteers and donors, many of whom have been a volunteer or donor for years, give tirelessly of their time, spirit and resources to help children see their potential, strive for their dreams and make great strides in building great lives as they grow. The kids bring their incredible spirit, hunger for knowledge and desire to expand their skills. The children the Angel Covers assists are not just looking for a handout or hoping for the best, they are dedicated to shape their futures with the help of all involved. Without the great volunteers and our very generous donors we wouldn't have the opportunity to help so many deserving children to develop into wonderful and productive adults.
I have been a volunteer and board member for this organization for many years and continue to be pleased with the on-going dedication of all involved. The children that are supported are grateful and are able to make significant strides in improving their lives. They strive to be the best they can be and they see that people care about them and want the best for them. Knowing that Angel Covers uses almost all the donations it receives to support the children is even more reason to support this organization. How many of us can say that all/almost all dollars they donate goes to actually support the charitable mission of an organization, which happens with Angel Covers (no one is paid including the Executive Director).
n 2002 a spark ignited between two women wanting to make a positive difference in lives of Chinese orphans. Fifteen years later, Angel Covers has grown and expanded into many countries and has changed the lives of children throughout the world. This foundation is remarkable in many ways not the least of which is that all the worldwide work is carried out by volunteers, none of which has ever received any compensation for their time and expenses. I have volunteered with this foundation since 2006 and my husband and I have been monthly/annual donors since it's inception. The driving force of each volunteer is to do all we can to help all children become independent, empowered adults breaking the cycle of poverty by providing education, nutrition, shelter, and medical care. By visiting www.angelcovers.org, you too will become inspired by the accomplishments of the Angel Covers organization. Please consider being part of this remarkable foundation when making your monetary donation decisions and further, consider any volunteer hours you may have.
I first learned of Angel Covers in 2008 after hearing a talk by Beatrice Anunda, founder of Humble Hearts School for the Deaf in Nairobi, Kenya. Angel Covers is a very important partner in furthering the work of HH. My wife and I traveled to Nairobi with the Executive Director in 2009 and were utterly amazed at the amount of positive impact the school was having on its 300 students, all being educated in a makeshift school building made from corrugated iron and saplings. Fortunately, with major help from Angel Covers, Humble Hearts was able to build a permanent structure housing both the school and dormitories for students that needed to stay at the school, and Humble Hearts moved in during the following year.
My wife and I have continued to support Angel Covers and Humble Hearts through the years, and this year I was invited to join the Board of Angel Covers. Over the last several years Angel Covers has assisted the school in expanding its nutrition, healthcare, and shelter programs and has helped launch a program by which older students are now equipped with Kindle readers so they can access a far broader selection of textbooks and other reading material. AC is an NGO that has truly made a huge difference in the lives of many, many children, all with minimal or no overhead.
We've been supporting Angel Covers since 2008 and it is truly a worthy, grass roots organization. My wife and I visited one of their supported institutions, Humble Hearts School for the Deaf in Nairobi in 2009, and did volunteer work for a week. The staff works for small salaries and are very dedicated to giving a quality education. In addition, communication to those of us who continue to sponsor a child is regular and substantive, reinforcing our satisfaction in continuing our support. And, best of all, all Angel Covers personnel are volunteers and the minimal necessary overhead is covered by contributions specifically for that purpose, so 100% of sponsorship contributions and other donations go directly to the benefit of the people beng helped.
I have been involved with this organization as a donor, a peripheral volunteer, and a key coordinator, for over ten years. I continue to want to become more and more active as I see the most direct result for my efforts, time, and dollars here. Earnest efforts, good solid decisions for worthy projects, faithful stewards of sponsorships and donations. Thrilled for the opportunity to support and participate!
This organization is small, but mighty. It accomplishes much with dedicated donors, and a handful of volunteers. I am really impressed by the passion people bring to each project. Knowing that a child will eat, learn, and have a warm place to call home is wonderful.
Angel Covers is a small, highly effective NGO that supports a school for the deaf in Nairobi and an orphanage in China. Director Kari Fillmore is highly dedicated and works for no salary, indeed, paying many Angel Covers-related expenses from her own pocket; hence, administrative overhead is negligible (stamps, etc. are about all). Several other administrative volunteers also work for no salary. Funds are raised through individual contributions, an annual fund raiser dinner, contributions through the AmazonSmile program, and other sources.
I been a volunteer and now board member with Angel Covers for nearly 10 years. It is difficult to find non-profits these days that contribute nearly 96% of donations every year to their programming. Angel Covers is a small but mighty organization that continues to stay focused. The images attached reflect happy faces of children that have directly benefited from the organization.
Humble Hearts, a school and home in Kenya, that now serves 300+ children on a shoestring budget is one of the programs of focus. Having personally visited 2 years ago I know that the work Angel Covers does with these children is used to provide these children with an education, something no one can ever take from them, feed them and love them.
As a woman and a mother of a young girl, I can't imagine worrying about her being married off at 12 or 13 because the family can't afford to feed and cloth her. The image of Zerong is one of hope - she can continue to go to school and become an educated woman and hopefully marry when she wants.
Children in this Huabei, China orphanage receive much needed vitamins through donations made to Angel Covers.
Working with Angel Covers makes me remember to take for granted my education, the food I eat consistently every day, the roof over my head and the medical care I can afford. Angel Covers brings hope to children around the world.
I discovered Angel Covers about 10 years ago. I was immediately impressed with the Director, Kari Fillmore. She is dedicated and works tirelessly for child. I was also interested in the organization because nearly all of donations go towards programs. VERY few non-profits can say that. I began as a volunteer doing whatever Kari needed and have grown into serving as a board member.
This summer my daughter and I traveled with Kari and one of her children to Kenya to look in on and work at Humble Hearts. Humble Hearts is just one example of a program Angel Covers supports. It is an excellent example of the organization's mission being carried out. They strive to provide nutrition, housing, medical and educational needs so they can grow into their potential.
I highly recommend this GREAT non-profit!
Humble Hearts School based in Nairobi Kenya salutes Angel covers for the
great work they have done in bettering the lives of children and their
families in Kenya. Humble Hearts having partnered with Angle Covers
since 2004 has gone through great transformational shift to both its
children and the community around i wish to share two episodes here.
My story is told of a young boy named John Macharia, who was born deaf
and mute, being the first born in a family of three children it took his
parents time to accept their son's disability and just after it had sank
down and were slowly learning on how to help him cope did they realise
there was yet another challenge. John was not growing as per his age,
when he was one year old he looked like a baby of only a few months, they
took him to a National hospital and it was discovered John had a heart
problem which needed to be fixed for him to live a normal live like
Coming from a poor family that lived from hand to mouth one meal a day
the family was not able to raise the money that the hospital needed for
his surgery and treatment and so yes they left everything to God hoping
for a maricle.
John joint HH in 2006 at the age of about 11yrs, he looked weak but
happy he had no idea that he had any problem, he could not play for long
with the other children and he looked half his age. We called the
parents to inquire more and they brought in a pile of letters from the
hospital showing John's condition and the money they needed to raise. I
remember the mother crying and asking for us to step in and help not
knowing iwe too were helpless, where could we get such a big a mount of
money when we have other challenges of feeding the children of HH.
John was then staying at the Angel Cottage because he could not commute
to school due to lack of bus fares, one night i called him and touched
his chest i immediately withdrew my hand because his heart bit was not
normal,it felt like many little veins rushing blood in circles, anyway
it was a freighting feel and i immediately knew something had to be
I email the director of Angel Covers who shared John's story to many
nice people who quickly step in and together raised funds for John to go
for an open heart surgery as needed
John healed well after the surgery and so did his health, he started
gaining weight, some chubby chicks could be seen and yes his health
become better and better everyday. By the time John was graduating from
HH his body and age were as should be.
I was in a bus last month and i was suprised at how he has grown to be a
tall handsome young man and i smiled to myself as i remember that one
long day when we had to run through hospital corridors to ensure that he
gets the best treatment and yes he did get the best treatment and from
the best surgeons in Kenya.
His parents and HH family are forever greatful for how Angel Covers
stepped in to help a young lad who truely needed help. The dreams of his
parents seeing thier child grow up as a normal child were realised just
because one good nonprofit helped to tell the story. Attached is a photo
of Macharia recovering in hospital after surgery.
Many thanks and hope for Angels Covers to be voted among the best non
