This organization is one of the better dog rescues out there. They rescue Mamma's and puppies that are on the kill list of local shelters. If a mother comes in with a little they are given very little time to find a rescue that will take them. Most rescues will not because it is hard to have someone foster with a nursing mom and puppies. Some will take the puppies if they are almost old enough to wean. That is not true for Anchor Your Heart.

All dogs that are adopted, have been spay/neutered, shots up to date, micro-chipped, and any other medical will be cleared up at the time of the adoption. Also ALL dogs are worked with by the foster. Most dogs that come there are neglected and need love.

One dog I worked with was found delivering puppies covered in blood in a pool of bloody water. You could not approach her even to feed her she would growl and snap at you. 4 weeks later, this same dog would break out of her kennel ( she destroyed a few) to come and jump into my lap to give me kisses, if I put her back she would get out again. It takes time to work with these dogs, and that is the responsibility of the foster. They try and identify any issues right away so that they can be evaluated to see if there are any special requirements like no cats.

If you are looking for a dog this is the best place, it is a rescue and IF the dog does not mix with you life, you can return it no questions asked

I was a first time foster. I found a senior dog that would fit in my house really well. When I arrived they paired me with a young un-neutered pit mix. No problem, I have pits and love them. It was ok at first. Then some issues between mine and the foster. It progressed into fights, vet visits due to fights, dr. visits due to being bitten myself by the foster. I was begging for it to be re-homed. And it never was. At one point it was for a few hours, then I was asked to pick it up when it didn't work for a new foster. There was a point when the foster got into my pantry, (at this point I had to keep my dogs separated due to the fighting, and could not constantly be with both) and ate a bunch of chocolate. Had to take to emergency vet. Was told they would pay me back. Never did and ceased communications.

I cared greatly for this dog and this nonprofit did not provide the support they promised. There were many empty promises of re-imbursement and rehoming that never came. It was a very disappointing experience.

I would definitely recommend working with other rescue groups.
