Mission: An Uncommon Legacy Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to enhancing the visibility, strength, and vitality of the lesbian community. Legacy invests in our future by awarding scholarships to students with leadership potential and by awarding grants to fund projects and organizations that contribute to our community's health, education and culture. Legacy is building an endowment to ensure permanent financial support for lesbians. Legacy promotes philanthropy among women and demonstrates the growing power of lesbian giving. Legacy was started when a group of accomplished women gathered to celebrate the achievements of "Uncommon Women" and raise funds for lesbian projects. Local legacy chapters invest half the proceeds from Legacy parties in local community projects and allocate half to national projects. Since its inception, Legacy has grown to comprise seven active chapters in cities throughout the country and has granted over $800,000 in scholarships to individuals and grants to lesbian community based organizations.
