Mission: Amor Ministries is a non-profit religious organization whose mission is to provide housing for the poor while focusing on the needs of the local church. In 1980, Scott and Gayla Congdon founded Amor Ministries. The same year a board of directors was assembled as a means of accountability for the ministry. We work year-round with a board of pastors from various communities and denominational backgrounds in the colonias of Baja California, Ciudad Juarez, Tecate, Rosarito, and Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. Amor not only provides free housing for families in need, but also facilitates a year-round food bank, back-to-school program, and community care donation center.

Amor is a wonderful organization! They provide housing to families in poverty. I went with a group of friends to build in Tijuana and Cancun! The experience was extremely trans-formative for my life. They also have programs to help provide jobs in the local communities that they operate in. You can tell how much they care about people and love them through their wonderful staff and the way they operate. They love Mexico and show it through their actions, they now serve in South Africa as well!

This organization helps people have a roof over their heads one at a time with the help of sponsors and volunteers. They build homes for those who live in poverty and don’t have the means to do it themselves. My husband, 2 daughters and I had the opportunity to help build a home in Tijuana. The experience was great for all of us, my daughters felt so proud to be able to help out others in need. This experience not only brought us closer together as a family but it also helped us realized we can do so much for others in need for just so little of our time. We enjoyed it so much we have planned to go for a second and third trip.

They charge a 40% cancellation fee. This fee is variable based on the size of your group, even when their costs do not change based on your group size. Otherwise, an okay non-profit. Religious. You get to build a house.
