Mission: Foundation Schools, Inc., founded in 1998, is part of a larger non-profit, Associated Marine Institutes (AMI). AMI was founded in 1969 by a marine researcher and a juvenile court judge as an alternative to incarceration for delinquent youth. The AMI board made a decision in 1998 to establish a new company dedicated to the prevention of delinquency. Foundation Schools was born in 1998 with the opening of 2 schools in Sarasota Florida and Ocala Florida. The company is rapidly growing and now has 2 schools in Sarasota, 2 in Tampa Florida, 2 in Ocala, 1 in Palm Coast Florida and 1 in Chicago. Our mission is "building character and scholarship in youth who are at risk of expulsion from public schools, helping them develop into responsible and productive citizens." Our vision is to create a nationwide network of alternative solutions for public schools, recognized as the premier partner for alternative education. In order to make this vision a reality, the board has developed a plan for rapid expansion that includes a total of 100 schools by the year 2005.
