" in the hostel and in education programs, we bring together people from diverse backgrounds to create relationships and dialogue that improve cultural understanding and create a more tolerant world.
Programs: Hostel services & programs: ayh-chicago hosts travelers from morethan 60 countries and more than 90,000 overnights annually. Thehostel is specifically designed to promote social interaction andexperiential learning, with communal environments that fosterconnection and conversation. Hostel programs also facilitateinteraction amongst people from diverse backgrounds. As travelersget to know each another, they are discovering their similaritiesand their differences, breaking down stereotypes and socialbarriers, expanding world views, and creating a more tolerantworld.
education & engagement programs: ayh-chicago delivers educationand engagement programs to elementary and high school studentsfrom greater chicago area. Cultural education programs teachopen-mindedness and respect for different cultures to more than500 local students and 100 visiting travelers. Program outcomesare aligned with the value rubrics created by the americanassociation of colleges and universities (aacu) in the disciplinesof intercultural communication, civic engagement and globalcitizenship. Special programs are offered in conjunction withchicago public schools and local nonprofit youth-serving groups.
