Mission: ATR is certified by state and federal agencies as a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation providing protection of all species of tortoise and turtle. We offer permanent sanctuary to abandoned and lost tortoises, as well as those that are confiscated from law enforcement and require temporary housing. Foundlings that cannot be adopted because of ill health or because they are in danger of extinction remain in the care of American Tortoise Rescue for the remainder of their lives.
Results: ATR has rescued and rehomed more than 4,000 turtles and tortoises throughout the US in its 30 years. We have educated thousands about the proper care of turtles and tortoises. In 2000, we started World Turtle Day® which is now shellebrated in virtually every country throughout the globe.
