Suppose you are passionate about a particular aspect of solar energy and want to make a difference. In that case, ASES with its small, but hard-working staff, expertise of member professionals, and passionate group of volunteers is the organization that will support your goals and assist you in making them happen. In my case, the area of interest is passive solar. By expressing this interest and the willingness to work hard towards sharing knowledge and encouraging discussion, I became involved in many ASES programs such as the Solar Building Division, the annual National Solar Tour, and the steering committee of the annual National Conference, then eventually the board of directors. I have been able to present a webinar and help select papers and topics for the conference. As a seasoned professional, I am willing to spend more time educating others and ASES makes that possible, but I can also recommend to emerging professionals that ASES is an organization that can assist your career with quality professional, career-long connections.

The American Solar Energy Society is the only non-profit organization in the United States that has continuously (since its inception in 1954) supported and promoted solar energy through education and interaction. They have always encouraged the incorporation of free and natural passive solar energy to reduce a building's dependence on mechanically obtained heat for the occupants' comfort and survival as well as reduced energy consumption and costs. They also advocate for the sustainable use of photovoltaic (PV) panels and efficiency-first strategies as well as passive cooling. Through their annual conferences, workshops, and publications as well as interaction with a super passionate and smart group of people, I have obtained the majority of my passive solar knowledge that has led me to develop Sun Plans and successfully provide home design services for clients throughout the U.S. The free National Solar Tour that they have organized every year for the past 28 years is an awesome event that solar homeowners and business owners share and learn from each other.
American Solar Energy Society (ASES) is a reputable organization focused on promoting solar energy and sustainable practices.
As an ASES Volunteer, I've had the opportunity to enhance my skills in project management, organization, leadership, and more. It's been so interesting for to learn more about solar and why it is so important to continue to help accelerate equitable solar adoption and universal sustainable living by educating and building community.
ASES a Board member for ASES, I'm proud that ASES has been advocating for a fair and just transition to solar (and other forms of clean energy) for almost 70 years. Just one example of the great work they do is the National Solar Tour. ASES runs the National Solar Tour each year which allows solar owners (both residential and commercial) to show off their solar to their neighbors. Even during COVID, where they quickly transitioned to virtual tour sites, the tour has been a great opportunity for folks to show their friends and neighbors why they went solar and how it's saving them money. It's been proven that happy solar owners nearby incentivizes more folks to go solar. This great program is almost 30 years old and has helped accelerate solar adoption in all 50 states for years. It's just one reason why ASES is a great non profit organization.
I am currently a senior at CU Boulder and about 2 months ago I began interning for ASES. My experience thus far has been nothing but pleasant and enriching. As someone who is about to begin their career path after college, this experience has been great for learning how things operate within non-profits, how people generally act within non-profits, and the good that is done through non-profits. Specifically within this non-profit all the people I have interacted with through the organization are extremely kind, understanding, and actively trying to create sustainable, equitable, positive change in the world around them. I am very glad to be working with this organization, as I believe it is where I can create the most positive change in my own specific way.
As a member of the board of a small nonprofit, I am interested in helping our organization pursue a solar installation for our facility, I have found the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) to be a been a valuable resource. I have received useful information through a user forum, and valuable guidance from ASES experts. Because of the resources that have been recommended to me, I have a better understanding of a area that is completely new to me. Thank you ASES!

I really appreciate the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) not just for advocating for solar energy solutions, but for having environmental justice as a core value. This is obvious to me from the efforts they make to engage a diverse membership; the topics they address in their magazine and at conferences and online meetings; the make-up of their board and staff; and the intentionality they have to make sure solar energy isn't just being deployed, but that it is being deployed in a way that genuinely helps people, and not just the few people who already profit off of the current fossil fuel-based energy system. ASES is a wonderful community that is supportive and helpful to a young professional like myself, and I have benefitted greatly from their "Mentor Match" program. I attended my first in-person conference this past year and was welcomed with open arms; I look forward to being a part of this excellent group for a long time to come.

“On the “Everything Solar Forum” back on 4/10/2023, there was this post question by Kat, the Editor.
https://community.ases.org/discussion/what-are-some-technologies-that-you-would-like-to-see-covered-more-in-solar-today.
The question ended up getting 62 thoughtful replies, which is rather high for E.S. forum posts. The diversity of responses was incredible to say the least. No hesitation of new or perhaps off the wall ideas, or established venues. I cannot think of another forum where such a diverse set of responses would be met with professional and welcoming conduct, and providing answers to the specific question. It is definitely not the norm in today’s world.
The Everything Solar Forum is just one hub of communication that ASES offers for its members, solar on lookers and the newly interested. Since their inception in ’54, this is what ASES has been all about, always championing the solar direction in all its many, many ways.

ASES has increased my passion for the renewable energy industry. As a volunteer, I am grateful to be a part of a nonprofit that does an amazing job of building community.

While I am a newer member of ASES (2 years), I have been involved with photovoltaic and solar research and development and known many ASES members for decades (20-30 years). As a member, I can point to a couple of very strong points that I have come to recognize. ASES is (1) responsiveness to their members and organized communities, and (2) they are effective in bridging sundry groups (developers and industrialists, educators, scientists and researchers, individual enthusiasts, non-profits, policy wonks, architects and designers, small business and entrepreneurs, and social justice & equity groups) in the solar community. They are very inclusive, listen to each other, and share information and opportunities freely and enthusiastically. This is evident and represented at all levels, from their staff - to their members - to their Board of Directors and Advisors. Two thumbs up for ASES!
I appreciate the American Solar Energy Society for giving me the opportunity to grow. As a young woman with a B.S. and a passion for environmental stewardship I was looking for the next step in my career. Continuously, I asked myself, where is my career going and how can I keep helping to conserve our planet’s resources? Soon I realized my desire to work in Renewable Energies, although I unfortunately have little background in the field. ASES has provided me with an internship opportunity that allows me to use my existing strengths, while growing other areas of my resume. They are assisting me in gaining valuable industry experience while I strive to obtain my M.Sc. in Energy and Sustainability. I value ASES not only for the opportunity they have given me, but their commitment to having many interns working in the organization. By doing so they are allowing young professionals with a passion for solar energy to develop themselves further. This increases our ability to make lasting and meaningful contributions to earth preserving work later in our careers. In this way ASES is helping to educate and empower a large set of people who might otherwise be unsure of how to proceed in entering the business sector of solar energy. Providing interns with a way to contribute and help grow the organization assists us in feeling involved and committed to our communities. For these opportunities to grow young peoples’ careers and passions, I appreciate and thank ASES.
