satelitte symposiathe satellite symposiums are educational activities held in conjunction with the ash annual scientific meeting. The term 'satellite' refers to the fact that it takes place around the official annual meeting scientific sessions, either before or after. There are several elements that differentiate satellite symposia from other annual meeting scientific sessions: 1) the topic is of interest to industry supporters and support is solicited; 2) because of the additional work required for implementation a vendor called a medical education company is utilized; 3) there is a food function held with the symposium to incentivize annual meeting registrants to attend; 4) they are held in a room separate from other scientific sessions to accommodate the room set-up, usually round tables versus rows of seats; 5) there are additional promotional mechanisms implemented to drive attendance.
