Mission: The mission of the American Sleep Apnea Association is to improve the lives of sleep apnea patients. We accomplish this mission through education, services, peer-support, research, and advocacy.

Programs: The ASAA’s CPAP Assistance Program (CAP) has provided over 5,000 CPAP equipment packages to patients in need over the last three years. It is our mission to help as many patients as possible get the treatment that they need. No one should go untreated due to financial hardship or other issues. Our A.W.A.K.E. Program stands for Alert, Well, And Keeping Energetic. Its education and support groups are available in nearly every state, helping people face to face and free of charge. A.W.A.K.E. gives people with sleep disorders the tools to manage their own health care successfully. The annual Sleeptember® campaign will recognize September as the month to prioritize healthy sleep and to create greater conversations to raise the awareness of the risks of untreated sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea. The initiative encourages the public to take healthy actions. Funding will provide greater awareness and research to improve the outcomes of those affected by sleep disorders. Our SleepHealth Study is a mobile research study to investigate how your sleep is associated with general health, medical conditions, daytime alertness, and productivity. The SleepHealth app is part of an exciting new patient-led effort to use the iPhone and Apple Watch to advance clinical research on sleep and sleep disorders and how they affect other medical conditions. It is also a personalized tool that helps you gain greater insight into your sleep habits and your general health and well-being. The SleepHealth team consists of the American Sleep Apnea Association, a patient-led, non-profit organization and researchers at the University of California, San Diego. This study is unique in that it is led by patients and allows participants to be equal partners in both the monitoring and management of their symptoms and data collected as well as helping to direct future research by participating in our community at www.sleeptember.org.

I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea in 1992. Besides my local clinic back then there was no support. When I found the ASAA in 2008, I found a group of people working hard a trying to make a difference in lives of people suffering with sleep apnea. I was so impressed with them and the work that they were doing, that I joined them, later becoming a board member for a time. The current Board and volunteers are awesome. The programs that they have, the information they get out, the support that they give, the lives they have saved and the lives that they have enhanced make this one of the best organizations that I have ever been associated with.

I first stumbled upon the ASAA by way of participating in their joint study with the COPD foundation O2verlap. It was a great experience. From there I linked up with the Facebook page and the AWAKE page also on Facebook and so on. I have learned more from these associations then I ever thought possible. My health is improving and I am now able to balance out my health issues and keep them in check. I can't thank ASAA enough for all they have helped me with from their CPAP program to the Facebook live events I am the better for it all.

Great place to get information and advice about Sleep Apnea. Also, I've donated excess equipement to them, creating a win-win situation. I get a tax deduction and someone in need gets equipment.

I have been working in the field of sleep medicine for several decades and over the last several years I have become so impressed with the ASAA that I chose to become involved in many of their initiatives. The current management team, board members and volunteers work very hard to ensure that the best information and services are provided to those of us who have sleep apnea. I would like to thank them for the hard done as individuals and as a non-profit to sleep medicine.

I donated a Cpap machine with the understanding that I would get a donation letter for tax purposes. I also donated the shipping at their request. I have asked for the letter 3-4 times over a year and they have promised, but not sent it to me. It makes me doubt the legitimacy of this organization.
