Mission: The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Programs: The Mt. Baker Chapter American Red Cross has four primary areas of service. Red Cross Disaster Services gives immediate emergency response to people during times of disaster. Red Cross volunteers are on call 24-7, 365 days a year to assist at local fires, flooding, winter storms, power outages, hazardous material spills and other natural and manmade disasters. Red Cross provides shelter, food, clothing, medicine, mental health services, advocacy and more. Local Red Cross Disaster Services provide a valuable function as part of the local, regional and statewide emergency network. Red Cross Health & Safety Services are known as the premier provider of First Aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillation, Babysitting, Wilderness First Aid, Aquatics and other Health & Safety education programs designed to help people of all ages respond to emergencies and save lives. Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) and International Social Services (ISS) provide a vital emergency communications link between members of the military and their families and others in times of war, civil unrest, disasters, and other emergencies around the world. Finally, the Mt. Baker Red Cross has a strong program to recruit, train, and acknowledge volunteers who provide time, skill, and expertise to keep Red Cross services strong in Whatcom County and Skagit Valley. The people who benefit from these services are all residents of Whatcom County or Skagit Valley and the surrounding region in Washington State. Red Cross is not government-funded. All Red Cross disaster relief is free to the public. Each year more people depend on Red Cross programs and services, so the need for consistent support from individuals and businesses becomes greater. The Mt. Baker Chapter Red Cross depends on generous financial contributions from the public to support the local work of the American Red Cross. Because the Mt. Baker Red Cross has a compelling mission, an impressive service record, and the ability to get the most out of every donated dollar, it has remained one of the community's most respected charitable non-profit agencies since 1917.
