Mission: When Mrs. Marquand observed the wounded soldiers returning from the Spanish- American War she decided to take action and help them. On June 21, 1898 she invited 20 guests including 12 nurses to her Mount Kisco home, New Castle House, and inspired them to organize what would eventually become today?s Westchester Chapter of the American Red Cross. American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
