Causes: American Red Cross, Disaster Aid, First Aid, Human Services
Mission: The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
Programs:
The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley responded to 95 disasters in fiscal year 2009-10 (July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010). A total of 542 adults and children were affected.
The majority of local Red Cross disasters are residential fires.
On average, the American Red Cross responds to one disaster every three days.
All disaster assistance is provided free, a gift from the American public.
