Mission: The american ornithologists' union (aou) is an international membership organization devoted to advancing the scientific understanding of birds, enriching ornithology as a profession, and promoting a rigorous scientific basis for the conservation of birds. The aou produces scientific publications of the highest quality, hosts intellectually engaging and professionally vital meetings, serves ornithologists at every career stage, and pursues a global perspective, and informs public policy on all issues important to ornithology and ornithological collections.
Programs: Aou publishes the journal the auk: ornithological advances, an international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research and scholarship advancing the fundamental scientific knowledge of bird species. Articles introduce or employ innovative empirical and theoretical approaches and analyses.
the aou hosts an intellectually engaging and vital annual meeting that provides the opportunity for the dynamic exchange of scientific ideas among leading scientists, researchers, students, practitioners, enthusiasts, and world experts in the field of ornithology.
