Mission: Anera addresses the development and humanitarian needs of palestinians and other communities in the middle east.
Programs: Health and relief:in fiscal year 2018, anera distributed 46 shipments of vital medicines, equipment, wheelchairs and health care supplies to vulnerable communities in palestine and lebanon. Anera trained volunteers at five all-girls schools in palestinian refugee camps in lebanon to deliver hygiene awareness sessions to others in the camp. We provided free dental care to 1,634 children in lebanon displaced by the syrian war; for some it was the first time they ever saw a dentist. Relief in the form of food parcels were delivered to 2,646 families in gaza and lebanon. 125 public health sessions were conducted and 2,762 hygiene kits were distributed throughout gaza. Anera also constructed a state-of-the-art health clinic in the west bank village of walajeh.
community and economic development:anera programs in fiscal year 2018 improved family livelihoods by creating hundreds of jobs in construction and engineering. We worked with 205 gaza farming families to effectively irrigate and plant their lands. We provided youth empowerment workshops and sports for development programs to 160 children living in shatila refugee camp in lebanon. Anera led initiatives such as trash clearing and recycling for one lebanese village inspired the community to expand into composting which has cut down the municipality's waste by 80 percent. Anera also built community spaces for people to come together, from two sports facilities near refugee camps in lebanon to a women's center for 300 women in the hebron area of the west bank.
education:from kindergarten to vocational school, anera opened doors for people to access opportunities for learning. In the west bank, we renovated and upgraded 17 kindergartens and built one new pre-school to create a better learning environment for over 4,100 students. Nearly 177 kindergarten and preschool teachers benefited from anera's training and mentoring program, part of our ground-breaking early childhood development work in palestine. We trained over 140 teachers in early childhood development workshops that will benefit over 5,000 children. In lebanon's palestinian and syrian camps, anera brought 8,121 out-of-school youths into the classroom again to teach basic math and literacy, thereby building the fundamentals for further learning.
