What is a clinical mental health counselor?
Clinical mental health counseling is a truly distinct healthcare profession with national standards for education, training and clinical practice. Clinical mental health counselors (CMHC) are highly-skilled professionals who provide flexible, patient-centric therapy. CMHCs used evidence-based practices which include traditional psychotherapy with research validated approaches to create positive treatment alliance and a dynamic and efficient path for change and problem resolution. A licensed clinical mental health counselor has met or exceeded the following professional qualifications:
CMHCs have completed a master's or doctorate degree in clinical counseling with coursework equalling a minimum of 60+hrs. Licensed CMHCs complete a minimum of two years post-master's clinical work under the supervision of a licensed clinical mental health counseling professional; and successfully passed a required state licensure examination.
