Nonprofit Overview

Mission: To develop, support and encourage educational and scientific programs concerned with the advancement of the sports medicine profession for the benefit of the community and the common good.

Programs: Annual meeting - 1) to provide a valuable source of current cutting edge medical knowledge to professionals actively engaged in treating athletic patients; 2) to provide an academic forum for physicians to discuss current and controversial issues in the field of sports medicine; and 3) to foster a collegial relationship among dedicated, competent sports medicine physicians who are recognized as experts by their peers and to provide a quality educational experience.

advanced team physician course - this course was sponsored by the acsm, amssm and aossm. The course objectives are: 1) to address state of the art and cutting edge issues and information concerning evaluation and management of medical and musculoskeletal problems of the athlete; and 2) to ensure the team physician is exposed to the latest information in the field of sports medicine.

msk conference - enhance the skills in diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound guided injections of common musculoskeltal (msk) problems. The goals and objectives of this program service are as follows: 1) develop competence in utilization of an ultrasound machine in msk scanning; 2) acquire skills in standardized protocols and techniques common for msk ultrasound exams; 3) identify anatomy during msk ultrasound; 4) understand and explain the indications and benefits of msk ultrasound and ultrasound guided injection; and 5) develop an understanding of and acquire skills in basic ultra sound guided injections.

ecg program - this training is an effort to train physicians in electrocardiogram interpretation in athletes. Research conference - this conference targets primary care sports medicine fellows initiating their training program. The course objectives are: 1) to provide a foundation for understanding research principles and methods; 2) to provide material that will aid in the construction and implementation of a scientifically sound research project; and 3) to network with other fellows in developing research and clinical ties.
