Mission: Founded in 1904 to fight against the most feared lung disease of the time tuberculosis, the American Lung Association is the nation's oldest voluntary health agency. We are supported by dedicated volunteers, a professional staff and the country's leading experts in lung disease. The vision of the American Lung Association is a world free of lung disease. Our mission is the prevention of lung disease and the promotion of lung health. We are educators, teaching children healthy habits; supporters of research, seeking better treatments and cures; and advocates, speaking out in Lansing and municipalities throughout Michigan.
