Mission: To serve veterans and their families, provide programs to veterans and the needy, and assist local posts with community activities.
Programs: In support of the local community of york, maine, the american legion donated or performed the following: - provide a color guard at all veterans events - visit nursing homes on veteran's day to greet veterans and hand out flags - cut out the stars for disabled flags by ladies auxiliary to be handed to returning military - work to become evacuation site for southern maine - work with red cross to hold free cpr classes - buy and distribute phone cards to active military - collect and donate used cell phones to active military - hold holiday dinners for veterans - participate in essay contest for high school juniors interested in learning about the government - provide middle school students with helmets for bicycle safety - participate in flag day with middle school students to teach them flag etiquette - designate pick-up locations for toys for tots - host christmas party for underpriviliged children every year complete with lunch and gifts
