Mission: The american center for mongolian studies is an academic organization promoting scholarship and research about and in mongolia. The organization provides support services to students and faculty conductiong study or research in mongolia at its full service resource center and library in mongolia. It also conducts a variey of public outreach and educational activities including lectures and language training.
Programs: Fellowships/conferences/lectures - the organization supported three fellowship programs that provided $64,406 in fellowship awards to 10 people. These awards were used to send us fellowships to support field research (including 3 long term projects) and language acquisition for students and faculty. In addition, the organization held conferences and public lectures in mongolia in support of the fellowship programs and as part of the organization's public outreach goals. resource center and library in mongolia - the organization maintains a fully staffed resource center and research library in ulaanbaatar, mongolia. The center is housed in the ulaanbaatar city library and is overseen by a full-time resident director. The resident director is supported by a us director hosted as the center for east asian studies at the university of pennsylvania. The resource center offers visitng us and international scholars a comfortable research environment, which includes computers, office equipment, and a research library collection with over 4,000 volumes. The organization regularly acquires new books for the library in both the us and mongolia.
the american center for mongolian studies (acms) administers books for the mongolia program. The acms receives upwards of 40,000 donated textbooks from the us twice per year and handles distribution to interested institutions (i. E. Schools, libraries) in every part of the country.
