Causes: Chambers of Commerce & Business Leagues
Mission: To promote and support birth centers as a means to uphold the rights of healthy women and their families, in all communities, to birth their children in an environment which is safe, sensitive and cost effective with minimal intervention.
Programs: The association promotes and supports birth centers by working with members, conducting workshops and seminars and supporting the strong start grant program. Membership in 2017, aabc served 578 members (336 birth center members and 235 sustaining members)education offerings conducted:o 6 how to start a birth center workshops with a total of 302 participantso 11 webinars with a total of 421 participants (live and on-demand)o annual birth institute with a total of 160 participantsperinatal data registry 91 birth centers and 3 hospital midwifery practices contributed data. Aabc fulfilled requests from 2 researchers requesting access to de-identified data. Research committee members analyzing data for 5 research projects:o hydrotherapy and water birth in birth centers: practices and outcomeso comparison of clinical outcomes based upon birth center characteristicso management of prolonged pregnancy & comparison of outcomeso birth outcomes of women with pregravid bmis >30 enrolled for care at aabc birth centers compared to those of women with bmis
