Causes: Chambers of Commerce & Business Leagues
Mission: To stimulate research and study in the field of public opinion and social behavior; to facilitate the dissemination of research methods, techniques and findings through annual conferences, an official journal and other means; to promote the use of public opinion research in democratic policy formation; to encourage the development of professional standards; and, to serve as a representative national organization in international opinion research meetings and associations.
Programs: Conferences and annual meeting. There were approximately 1,200 attendees at the annual meeting in 2016. More than 700 abstracts were submitted for the meeting and over 600 were presented. The three and a half day conference program includes nearly 88 concurrent sessions and 7 half-day courses.
aapor produces resources on a range of survey and polling issues, including an online journal. Two peer-reviewed journals, the website, and other online materials are for use by public opinion research professionals and the general public. The public opinion quarterly (poq) is a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal published by oxford university press. Members in all membership classes other than joint and honorary membership receive an annual subscription as part of dues. Poq is published 4 times each year with a 5th special issue published at the discretion of the editors. In 2016 there were more than 2,000 member subscribers.
in 2016, aapor offered 7 webinars that included exceptional learning opportunities from the most respected leaders in public opinion and survey research. Two of the webinars were offered free to members. Recordings of prior webinars were offered for purchase.
